According to TVLine, in Girl Meets World Cory and Topanga are still married and the parents of a 13-year-old daughter named Riley. (Now, fans of the show might remember in an episode they had a flash forward to the future where the couple named their daughter Beverly Glen… apparently they ditched the old-fashioned name and went with something modern). Because Cory apparently wants to take over Mr. Feeny’s life, he is a seventh grade history teacher, with his daughter and her friends among his pupils.
So far, Ben Savage and Danielle Fishell have not signed on to reprise their roles, but come on! There is no way this would work with two outsiders. I’m not stopping with just the two of them… I want everyone to be on this show. Mr. Feeny better be a mentor to Cory, and Shawn needs to be their neighbor. Eric can live with them and be their babysitter, and Angela can be in business with Topanga. I expect nothing less!
Because I remember pointless things, I recall that in the final episode Cory, Topanga, and Shawn were all moving to New York City so Topanga could work at a law firm. This aired in 2000, so for them to have a teenage daughter now she would have had to be born right afterwards. Will this be addressed? I know it’s just a television show, but I hate when there are continuity issues. Fans aren’t stupid, and they’ll remember the tiniest details (which is why I had issues with the 90210 reboot). I hope the creators throw us a bone and remember what happened in the original series, and make sure it all adds up.
As excited as I am about the show, I wonder if the vast majority of viewers will be people like me (twentysomething who loved TGIF). As long as it’s smart and funny, I can see my 10-year-old niece tuning in, but if it focuses too much on the adults, she might not care. We’ll see what happens, but I know personally I am most excited to see what a child of Cory and Topanga has turned out like.
Are you looking forward to the show like I am, or should Cory and Topanga and their mismatched hair stay in the ’90s?
