ATTN CANADIANS: After first cutting the funding to the Experimental Lakes Area, the Harper governmentt is trying to SELL THEM OFF, probably to a group funded by, you guessed it, oil companies: http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/scientists-slam-secret-talks-to-sell-lake-research-hub-1.1042091 So a world class research facility with a record of independent regularotry research is now going to be a greenwashing facility for oil companies. FANTASTIC. (I blogged about it here: http://wp.me/p2wF7p-9t )

My Fella and I spent an evening last week taking lots of new pictures of things for my etsy shop, and they’re ALL loaded now. They look pretty! And professional! Now I just have to wait for people to buy things from me.

Yesterday we went to a pottery fair and then on a brewery tour, and I had my first stout (and first two-stronger-beers-in-a-few-hours’-span). It was fun, if rather crowded and people-overwhelming (we’re both introverts and get people-overwhelmed because introversion). But he’s stealing me for Thanksgiving, so I will get ALL THE FOOD and we’ll be at his mom’s and I’ll get to sleep and goof off a bit and help decorate for Christmas.

AND! Tomorrow the bookstore temp job starts again! I’ll be there through the end of January (excluding weekends and when the university’s closed), so PAYCHECKS and being busy and not falling into the sucking pit of job-hunting despair every single day.

Gah! Thanks for fixing my gif. They’ve been giving me all sorts of problems.

Hope you’re feeling less ragey. :)

I don’t know if it’s magical moderator powers or what, but I just ‘fix’ it by going into ‘edit’ and clicking ‘insert into editor’ which you’re probably already doing. Sorry I can’t be more help!

Guyyyyys I had a crappy week, but so far my weekend has been pretty boss.

    My ladyfriend brought me cheesecake.

    LARP went well

Chillaxing day went well (and I even spent 20 minutes or so cleaning things up around the house!)

So, all in all, it was a very good few days. What awesome things did y’all do this weekend?

    • [M] QoB
      [M] QoB11-18-2012

I visited a castle! It was a little one, but had crenellations and everything.

      • Lis
        Lis11-18-2012

That is awesome! I have not been to any castles in a very long time, and should work on rectifying that immediately.

My vacation is almost over, and that makes me very very sad.

On the plus side, I had some sweetened condensed milk left over from making Thai iced tea, and discovered that it’s delicious in coffee.

    • LittleOrangeElephant
      LittleOrangeElephant11-17-2012

Oh man Thai iced coffee is the best. Shots of espresso over ice with sweetened condensed milk. So good.

That’s what Thai iced tea is??? My life just got immeasurably better.

Yes. It’s amazing. Thai iced tea is also amazing. I make it by the gallon.

Why is it that as soon as I’m not stressed/ am capable of taking time for myself, I get sick? Turned in a major part of my candidacy project Thursday, by Friday afternoon I had a sore throat and congestion. I actually don’t mind this time, cause I’m spending my Saturday with a large pot of tea, lots of honey, and a kitty on my lap.

This is exactly my experience too… I started feeling the twinge in my throat the second my defense finished.

    • Eight Crayon Science

Same thing happened with my comps/proposal/any major exam. It’s like my immune system calibrates itself to hold out until the deadline, and then just goes “right, nap time.”

    • Silverwane
      Silverwane11-19-2012

You and me both. I usually get very ill at the beginning of any substantial break I have.

I’m on my first break of the semester, and while I thankfully didn’t come down hard with the cold that was lingering (probably because I’ve gotten sick so much this year, so I’d likely dealt with similar strains…), but now all the emotional crap is hitting me hard, since I have the energy to let myself feel it. So, I might as well be sick.

So here’s a hazard of connecting with old friends on Facebook.

Selena: So, how’ve you been? We haven’t spoken in such a long time!

Old Friend: You can see it all if you read my Facebook timeline.

    Selena: …

    • LittleOrangeElephant
      LittleOrangeElephant11-16-2012

….wow. Just… dang. Perhaps that’s why you haven’t spoken in a long time! Jeez.

I had the opposite problem. An old friend I hadn’t talked to in years got in touch with me via email, we had a few brief exchanges and then she friended me on FB. I realized I didn’t want her to find out about my cancer via FB so I rushed to try and get ahold of her before she took a look at my wall. Just not how I’d want anyone to find out, y’know?

      FB problems!

    • [M] QoB
      [M] QoB11-17-2012

yup, that’s not a response I’d want to get!

    • Silverwane
      Silverwane11-19-2012

      Next logical conclusion…

Selena: NOPE. Have a good day!

      Maybe I’m projecting.
