Ten Songs That Make Me Feel Awesome

Sometimes a lady needs to dance around like a fool, possibly in her underpants and almost definitely while singing into any vaguely microphone-shaped object she can find.

So here are mine, in no particular order (basically in the order I thought of them). And yes, most of them will totally destroy my punk cred. That doesn’t matter during an underpants dance party. Enjoy.

“212″ – Azealia Banks ft. Lazy Jay

I’m way behind in listening to her, everything about this song is wonderful.

“Ch-Check It Out” – Beastie Boys

I think it’s the music they sample that makes this song so fun, even though I still get a little bit sad when I hear the Beasties. RIP MCA.

“Fighter” – Christina Aguilera

I don’t know why the video has her dancing in one of those glass boxes that blows money and stuff for you to grab, but this song makes me feel like I can tackle anything.

“U + Ur Hand” – Pink

“I’m not here for your entertainment/you don’t really want to mess with me tonight/just stop and take a second/I was fine before you walked into my life/cuz you know it’s over/before it began/keep your drink just give me the money/it’s just you and your hand tonight.”

I don’t think I need to say any more than that.

“Alien She” – Bikini Kill

I could get into an analysis of the lyrics here, but it’s really just a fun feminist song to jump up and down and shout along to.

“California Love” – Tupac

I was too alternative and punk rawk to listen to Tupac back when I was in high school, so I’m a little behind, but I love dancing around to this song now.

“No Mercy” – Leftover Crack

Sometimes a lady needs to scream and air drum.

“Run the World (Girls)” – Beyonce

I mean, it’s pretty much just Beyonce who runs the world, but if she wants to bring the rest of us girls with her, I’m game.

“Shut The Fuck Up” – The Coathangers

If you can’t shout that at the world, at least blast this and let your cat watch you shout at the microwave.

“Comeback Kid” – Sleigh Bells

This video is about half slow-motion bed jumping and half me coveting that spiked motorcycle jacket.

I second that. My life is musically bereft at the moment. Need to crank it up!

I’m rather partial to ‘Let’s Dance to Joy Division’ as my perk me up tune.

I’m not even going to hit play on this because I really can’t NOT jump up at that and dance through the house with that song. And I’m not in a jumping-allowed situation right now.

I am partial to “Raise Your Glass” as my P!nk as my feel-good song (the non-Glee version).

“Tightrope” by Janaelle Monae is amazing

And when I get depressed about being single “No Man’s Woman” by Sinead O’Connor is my go-to song.
