The smoothies I make all share the same basic foundation; milk, juice, frozen fruit and yogurt. I eat more than enough sugar, so I usually don’t add extra sweeteners, unless I’m working with a particularly tart fruit. When I’m in a hurry, I’ll put most of the ingredients in the blender the night before, then stick the pitcher in the fridge, so all I have to do is add the frozen ingredients and blend in the morning.
The Love Me Smoothie
This is an adaptation of a very unhealthy milkshake I make, which I call “The Shit That Killed Elvis.”
Mix 3 oz. milk, 1 oz. banana nectar, 1 frozen banana (chop it up before you freeze it), 1 T. peanut butter, 2 oz. Greek yogurt, and a tiny dab of honey on puree.
The Call Me Melba
Mix 2 oz. milk, 2 oz. peach nectar, 3 oz. (by weight) frozen peaches and red raspberrries, 2 oz. Greek yogurt, and mint leaves.
Mix 2 oz. milk, 2 oz. blueberry pomegranate juice, ½ frozen banana, 2 oz. frozen blueberries, 2 oz. Greek yogurt and a dab of honey.
The Pip Pip Cherry-O
(With sincere apologies to our British readers for my terrible pun.)
Mix 2 oz. milk, 2 oz. red juice (I’ve used cranberry blends, sweet cherry juice, and red superfruit blends), ½ frozen banana, 2 oz. frozen, pitted cherries, 2 oz. Greek yogurt, and honey if you taste it and think it needs more sweet.
Mix 2 oz. milk, 2 oz. pomegranate juice, 1 whole frozen banana, 2 oz. Greek yogurt, and 1 t. cane sugar until smooth, then stir in the seeds from one pomegranate. You can blend the seeds, but I think it adds something fun when they’re whole.
