Lunchtime Poll: Now You’re Just Some Food That I Used to Hate

Sometimes tastes change.

Is there any food that you used to hate but now love?

Mine is Brussels sprouts. Even as recently as a few years ago, the very smell used to make me want to ralph, but now I cook them and I can’t get enough. I want to eat ALL the sprouts.

What about you?

I used to hate hamburgers because I’d had too many that were just burned and dry gray meat. Noy I like them so long as they’re seasoned and juicy. There’s still no way in hell I’d order a McDonald’s burger or anything like that, but make it Five Guys and I’ll be stuffing my face.

Brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes and asparagus.

Of course, I’m still not much of a fan of cauliflower (though I love broccoli) or cabbage (give me spinach and other dark greens). Or hot dogs, bleh.

Brussels sprouts. Tomatoes. Asparagus. Avocados. Lima beans. I was not a super picky eater as a kid, but I hated all of those things and like them now.

Still cannot drink orange juice with pulp or eat Honeydew melons or cantaloupe. Eeeeeeew.

I love mushrooms now, but I hated them when I was a kid. Same goes for tomatoes. I still eat them in certain ways only, but in those ways, they are delicious. :)

I still hate mushrooms. I can’t get past the texture. Which is tough since they show up in so many vegetarian dishes.

Food texture doesn’t really bother me and never really has, which is kind of weird because other textures–certain fabrics, the feeling of dust on skin–set my teeth on edge.

Mushrooms. And sweet potatoes. The mushrooms it was finding them not so squishy, and the sweet potatoes it was finding that I don’t have to eat them plain, I can add butter and cinnamon and brown sugar, or chat masala, and they will taste good.

Cooked spinach and mushrooms, though with the mushrooms I’m pretty sure it was having them prepared well (i.e. not slimy and gross) more than a taste bud change.

Sprouts is definitely something. Mushrooms as well, after a mind blowing experience. And recently, walnuts. Fresh out of their jacket, please. YUM.
