What I love about Tumblr is that there are so many different ways to communicate. You can use images, gifs, articles, stories, journal posts, etc., to get your point across to a whole lot of folks! Let’s start with the images and go from there.
Too apt a picture to show up on Tumblr because too often, I leave things for tomorrow because of that website.
And then here we have a comic by Tumblr blogger Sailor Swayze on loyalties and gaming consoles:
Teachers are often unaware of the gender distribution of talk in their classrooms. They usually consider that they give equal amounts of attention to girls and boys, and it is only when they make a tape recording that they realize that boys are dominating the interactions.
So if you’ve ever felt overlooked in class, this is probably why. Now if only more teachers were aware of this study.
And finally, from Feminist Disney, the following quote drew my attention and made me think long and hard about what it means to be a woman who also calls herself a feminist:
The buzz word in popular feminism today is empowerment. When I became a feminist many years ago, the word we used was liberation. Unlike empowerment, liberation is a collective concept which means that even if my life is all rosy and ‘empowered,’ it doesn’t mean shit for those women who are doing low paid jobs while trying to raise families. In fact, there is a very good chance that elite women’s empowerment is built on the backs of other women whose exploited labor provides the goods and services that enable a good career and a comfortable lifestyle. The low pay of nannies, cooks, cleaners, sweat shop workers, and day care providers means that wealthier women are freed up to make a salary that no doubt does feel empowering. -Gail Dines
So what did you find on Tumblr last week?
