Lunchtime Poll: How Competitive Are You?

So, what about it? How competitive are you? Do you play for the love of the game, or are you a fist-pumping, trash-talking, win-at-all-costs kind of player?

I can go either way. Most of the time, I would rather just have fun. I love playing games, and I’m usually just happy to have someone to play with. Sometimes, though, I hear the call of the wild and I want to WIN.

  1. I always *say* that I don’t mind who wins or loses, but I am wicked competitive. I believe it’s one of the best motivating forces in grad school. Because I will have a better grade, get my proposal in sooner, earn more funding than others in my cohort. That, of course, is not to say that I’m a sore winner or loser– I never rub it in or point out my successes (I’m actually really bashful about my accomplishments most of the time), but I made sure I succeed in the first place.

  2. Never ask me to play Monopoly. I am certifiably evil when it comes to Monopoly.
I’m pretty competitive generally speaking, but typically I can enjoy a game even if I lose. And if it’s board game I’ve never played before, I tend to be more chill. Or if it’s a game I just really like/don’t get to play often (like Agricola, no one ever wants to play it because it’s such a long game). I can get very persnickety when it comes to following the rules of the game though and that can annoy some people.
