News Appetizers: Happy Place

Hey you guys, this week was kind of a thing what with the tornadoes and terrorism. But you know what? It’s Friday, and it’s a long weekend. So let’s catch up on the news and then go to our happy places.

In a speech Thursday, Obama acted to curtail drone strikes and the scope of the war on terror. New York Times

The Boy Scouts of America voted to admit openly gay youths. Leaders still can’t be gay. But hey, it’s a step.  New York Times

Archaeologists have discovered thousands of cave paintings in Mexico. The paintings are important because they depict a pre-Hispanic culture that no one knew about before now. BBC

Riots in Stockholm continue. The cause is dissatisfaction about the treatment of poor immigrants by police. BBC

Britain continues to react to the grisly murder of a British soldier. NPR

  1. I’m funnily specific about happy places. I have two: The street leading down towards town from the Botanic Gardens in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, and the road down from my parents’ church, on a warm summer evening, towards the sun.
    Although these days, any sunny place where I can wear a t-shirt.
