Open Thread Karaoke Party

The best kind of karaoke party, because y’all don’t actually have to listen to me sing wildly off-key.

After reading the 30 Years of Music: 2005 post a couple weeks ago, I remembered my nerdiest greatest karaoke idea ever: Serenading an empty chair while singing the Gorillaz song “Clint Eastwood.”

What song sums up your week so far?

  1. Oh man, oh man, just got back from the new Star Trek guys. I laughed, I cried. I only made a frown face at a poor plot choice once. Fails the Bechdel test, sadly, but they have added a whole second lady crew member. She and Uhura both get to do very important plot things that are based on them being smart sciency ladies who hold important offices on a starship and not on their relationships to male characters (though they both do a bit of that also). Also, gonna level with you, for a movie length story to add any more core characters would be pushing it. Sure it would have been nice to see Uhura and new girl talk, but Uhura also never manages to get in a conversation with Scotty, Chekov, or Sulu either. The movie just about manages to give all of the core crew a moment in the spotlight, but the only characters that really get enough screen time to do a lot of growing and changing are Kirk and Spock.
