Pmag’s Ultimate Cocktails: Long Island Iced Tea

Once upon a time, in a century far, far away, I was once the chief drink-slinger at a dive bar. It may be the best job I’ve ever had.

Long Island iced tea in a clear glass with an orange garnish, and a Han Solo in carbonite ice cube. While I was tending bar, most of my customers were older fellas from the neighborhood, and as colorful as their conversation was, their drink orders were usually limited to shots and canned domestic beers. On Fridays, however, the crowd from the bank down the street came in, and those ladies wanted to wash away the week with one drink. That drink is Selena’s Knock Your Earrings Off Long Island Iced Tea.

This is not a drink for those who don’t hold their liquor well. This drink has enough alcohol in it to make things pretty blurry, so drink responsibly and with a designated driver on hand.

The Only LI Iced Tea You’ll Ever Need

  1. Slice an orange into ½ inch pieces, and cut in half to make semi-circles. This is your garnish.
  2. Fill a tall glass with ice, and squeeze the juice from 1/2 an orange or other citrus fruit over the ice.
  3. In a separate glass, add 3/4 oz (about 3/4 of a small shot glass) each of white tequila, white rum, vodka, and gin. Swoosh a drinking straw around to mix them up, and then pour over your ice.
  4. Top with a splash of Triple Sec, then fill to the top with cola. Add a little more ice, an orange slice on the rim, and a straw.
