Lunchtime Poll: Summer Reading

What’s everyone reading right now?

One of my friends works at Scribd and just hooked me up with a free membership, so I’m tearing through a bunch of older romance novels that have been on my to-read list for ages. I’m currently on the fourth Bridgerton novel by Julia Quinn, and then maybe I’ll catch up on some Eloisa James.

What’s on your summer reading list?

She once read large swaths of "Why Evolution is True" and a geology book aloud to her infant daughter, in the hopes of a) instilling a love of science in her from a very young age and b) boring her to sleep. After escaping the wilds of Waco, Texas and spending the next decade in NYC, she currently lives in upstate New York, where she misses being able to get decent pizza and Chinese takeout delivered to her house. 1. Right now, I’m about halfway through The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina Henriquez, and it’s really good, but I’ve been slow about reading it. I think it just came out today? I had an ARC.

Also, Future Tense books is putting out these 3 cool little books with Scout Press that are 35-pageish, staple-bound things. I just read May Lin Tan’s GIRLY, which was just two short stories, and it was excellent. I’m also working on Darkmouth Strikes Again by Jay Ponteri, which is a lyric essay on depression. It’s also very good.

I also want to read Wendy C. Ortiz’s upcoming memoir, Excavations, and Roxane Gay’s novel An Untamed State. And her essay collection, Bad Feminist, that comes out in August, I think.

I also have the Oasis- Definitely Maybe 33 1/3 book sitting here that I’m very excited to read.

    1. I just finished In Cold Blood (and then I watched Capote and enjoyed each even that much more)! Now I’m on Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam which I’m trying to finish before HBO fast tracks this thing and makes it the next Game of Thrones or whatever.

  2. That is one of my very favorite Bridgerton novels!!!!! I’m currently rereading “When He Was Wicked” during nice, sunny lunches as a special indulgence. (Mostly because that was the first one I grabbed. I own six(?) of them. (Yay library book sales! Whole boxes of novels for $5!) A friend gifted me “To Say Nothing of the Dog” so I think I’m obligated to read that one next.

  3. I’m about to start re-reading My Sister’s Keeper. The movie was on TV the other night and I suddenly had an urge to re-read! I’m planning to keep my summer reading relatively easy going; so possibly more Jodi Picoult, lots of poetry, and definitely Bryn Donovan’s Sole Possession, too. Maybe a Hunger Games trilogy re-read, too!
