This Weekend Open Thread is Seeing the Mermaids

*throws glitter*

I’m off to the Coney Island Mermaid Parade, dahlings. It’s the annual celebration of…um, glitter and boobs? No, really, the official reasons it was founded in 1983 are: “it brings mythology to life for local residents who live on streets named Mermaid and Neptune; it creates self-esteem in a district that is often disregarded as ‘entertainment’; and it lets artistic New Yorkers find self-expression in public.”

A woman wearing a skirt with bows on her breasts waves a bubble wand in the face of two police officers.

But also glitter and boobs.

This post made me feel:
  • Confused
  • Magical
  • Inspired
  • Hungry
  • Feels
  • Awe
  • Rage
  • Joy
  • Shock
  • Empathy
