Ladyghosts of TV Past: Battlestar Galactica,Episode 3.09, “The Passage”

May 14, 2012 at 9:00 pm in LadyGhosts of TV Past

I haven’t written much here about BSG‘s writers, a shortcoming on my part. This episode is written by Jane Espenson, who, in addition to BSG, has written for Buffy, Firefly, Torchwood, Game of Thrones, and many other of your favorite television shows. In other words, when you see her name, it pretty much guarantees you’re in for a good time. Well, not a good time per se, but a really well written one, at least. So let’s get to it! Ladyghosts of TV Past: Battlestar Galactica, 3.08, “Unfinished Business”

May 7, 2012 at 9:00 pm in LadyGhosts of TV Past

Guys. You guys. This week’s episode? It’s my favorite. My absolute favorite. If we could just freeze the series here, I’d be happy — none of the complicated sadness that comes afterwards, none of the ending that was, you know, incredibly frustrating, depending on whom your favorite characters happen to be. So let’s dive in, shall we? Read the rest of this entry →

We Try It: Biking to Work

April 30, 2012 at 7:30 pm in We try it!

Five years ago, I got a bicycle for Christmas. I had just moved to Arlington, VA, and told myself that I was going to become one of those People Who Bike Everywhere. There were bike trails literally all over the place! It was going to be a huge lifestyle change!

LadyGhosts of TV Past: Battlestar Galactica, Episode 3.07, “Hero”

April 23, 2012 at 9:00 pm in LadyGhosts of TV Past

Previously on Battlestar Galactica — WHOA! We’re flashing all the way back to the very beginning here! Adama’s big speech in the miniseries, layered over images of the first Six we ever see, the Cylon attack, and everyone realizing we are at war. We then jump to a few episodes ago, when Adama lectures Tigh about how he needs to stop sowing discontent, and Tigh responds by saying Adama won’t be seeing him again. Read the rest of this entry →

I Want Your Recipes: Make-Ahead Spring/Summer Dinners!

April 17, 2012 at 7:00 pm in Food

It’s springtime! (Or, summertime, apparently, based on Washington DC’s recent weather.) Therefore, it seems like it’s time for some springtime and summertime food. To me, that means lots of fresh fruits and veggies and delicious meats cooked on a grill. Well, crap. I live alone, so fresh veggies frequently go bad before I’ve had time to eat them all up, and I live in an apartment, so no grill for me! What’s a girl to do? Read the rest of this entry →

LadyGhosts of TV Past: Battlestar Galactica: 3.06: A Measure of Salvation

April 16, 2012 at 9:00 pm in LadyGhosts of TV Past

We’re getting excitingly close to my all-time-favorite BSG episode — it’s two weeks away! This week’s episode, at least, is much easier to take than previous ones have been — except, of course, for Baltar’s plotline. But we’ll get to that — and much more — below the jump! LadyGhosts of TV Past: Battlestar Galactica: 3.05: Torn

April 9, 2012 at 9:00 pm in LadyGhosts of TV Past

SO MUCH HAPPENS THIS EPISODE. Seriously. This could have been at least two, if not three, different episodes. And it is so very very spoilery! Stuff is described that becomes super important. Or doesn’t. Or possibly could. Anyway, read on! Read the rest of this entry →

LadyGhosts of TV Past: Battlestar Galactica: 3.04: “Collaborators”

April 2, 2012 at 9:00 pm in LadyGhosts of TV Past

Previously on Battlestar Galactica, Kara is held hostage by Leoben until she tells him she loves him, no matter how many times she kills him; Jammer is a member of the Cylon Police Force, and he’s in over his head — Tyrol tells him police force members are going to have to pay; the resistance is getting information from Gaeta, but they don’t know it’s him; Ellen had to die because she betrayed the resistance; New Caprica has been emptied and the remaining humans have taken to space again, and Baltar will be chilling with the Cylons. LadyGhosts of TV Past: Battlestar Galactica: 3.03: Exodus, Part 2

March 26, 2012 at 9:00 pm in LadyGhosts of TV Past

As I’ve mentioned before, this isn’t my first time watching BSG. However, my memory’s far from perfect, so I sometimes forget how they get out of certain scrapes. This was one of those episodes! Well, part of it was, at least. Also, I take a break from recapping to criticize the Adamas for just a moment. Intrigued? Read on!  Read the rest of this entry →

Spicy Sweet Potatoes

March 26, 2012 at 7:00 pm in Food

So last week, my plan for dinner each night involved a baked sweet potato, a reasonable side dish for early March. I grocery shopped accordingly…and then checked the weather. Between the near 80-degree temperatures, and my apartment building’s refusal to turn on the air conditioning before April 15, no way was I about to keep the oven on for the 45 minutes necessary to bake a sweet potato. LadyGhosts of TV Past: Battlestar Galactica: 3.02: Exodus, Part 1

March 19, 2012 at 9:00 pm in LadyGhosts of TV Past

This week’s episode is titled Exodus, so I’m hoping for things to be slightly less horrible for some of my favorite characters. (Mostly, Starbuck/Kara, whose plotline in the last episode was damn near unwatchable for me.) Who are your favorites? Read the rest of this entry →

Ladyghosts of TV Past: Battlestar Galactica, 3.01, Part Two: Precipice

March 12, 2012 at 1:00 pm in LadyGhosts of TV Past

This week’s Battlestar Galactica recap is a direct continuation from last week’s, so we get no “previously on Battlestar Galactica,” and there is no opportunity for me to mock the placement of the credits. We shall just dive right in! Read the rest of this entry →

Ladyghosts of TV Past: Battlestar Galactica: 3.01, Part 1: “Occupation”

March 5, 2012 at 9:00 pm in LadyGhosts of TV Past

Welcome to Season Three! As the first episode of this season is an hour and a half long, and as the ability to be concise is not one I possess, I’m splitting this beast of an episode in half. As millions of things happen, it’s probably for the best. So, when and where are we? Read the rest of this entry →

LadyGhosts of TV Past: Battlestar Galactica: 2.20: “Lay Down Your Burdens, Pt 2″

February 27, 2012 at 4:00 pm in LadyGhosts of TV Past

And now, Cylons and Colonials, we come to the finale of the second season. This episode is a LONG one — an hour and eight minutes, rather than the usual forty-three minutes, so please excuse me if I do ramble on a bit below. SO MUCH HAPPENS! Here we go! Read the rest of this entry →

New Show Recap: Downton Abbey, Episode 2.06, Part 2: The Thrilling Conclusion!

February 21, 2012 at 9:00 pm in New Show Recap

And now, the fantastic conclusion to the final episode! Get your popcorn or your teacakes or really whatever you heart desires, and be prepared to yell things at your television. Also, since this brings everyone up to date with what’s aired, I’ve included a bit of a quiz at the bottom, regarding how we all feel about, oh, everything. Please weigh in!
