Oh, I forgot to ask about Teresa Lisbon from The Mentalist! She’s a sidekick, and she puts up with a lot of shenanigans, but I still like her character. Mayyyybe not the most role-model-y, since she allows for so much rules-bending? But definitely a badass.

We haven’t gotten to the UK version yet because we’re trying to catch up on our Netflix queue (we basically watch everything except Bones a season or two late), but I hear it is better and I am excited.

Oh yeah, he totally loved her. I know last season’s finale (where she meets him and her baby) was a dream sequence, but I think it was quite true to how they would have been when they were alone together.

The obsidian weapons cache didn’t play out in quite the same way – in the books, Jon found it. So it’s possible that isn’t the only blade Sam has left – at least I hope so.

Yeah they showed him going batshit in Season 1, but we haven’t seen him enough recently to make the fear vivid. We’re told he’s responsible for the massacre at Harrenhal, but it doesn’t quite have the same impact.

Drunk Tyrion was really interesting. It’s an insight, perhaps, into what he’s been like most of his adult life – a throwback to the pilot episode.

I think it shattered when he tried to kill a wight (a corpse-y one, not an other) who wearing armour. Not by just him losing it. No one knows he’s Sam the Slayer now except Gilly, hah. I also saw in a forum someone suggested Coldhands might bring it when he meets Sam and Gilly later, or something like that.

I know! I’ve been trying so hard over the last five years, and sometimes it’s just plain awkward realising that you don’t even know what to say to the person. I find it’s getting harder to find people that share your interests in real life.

Much better than last episode!

I’m not nearly as afraid of Show Sandor Clegane as I was Book Sandor. He’s been portrayed in an entirely different manner.

Also, drunk Tyrion was some of the funniest shit ever, and when he threatened Joffrey I went OHDAMN SHIT’S GOIN DOWWWWWN. So great.

When I hear that Dany didn’t speak Dothraki as well as she thought, it made me realize that Khal Drogo must have doted on her a little bit. It’s hard to imagine, but what other reason would he have for telling his wife she spoke his people’s language beautifully if she didn’t. Poor Dany, she lost quite a man.

I was pretty underwhelmed by the finale of Doctor Who as well. There were some great moments and I love Matt Smith (even though I started with Nine and adored Ten, I feel like Eleven is MY Doctor) but overall I was left feeling kind of meh. I wanted to love Clara but she’s just felt so bland in every episode besides Asylum of the Daleks. I held out hope that her lack of a distinct personality was a deliberate plot device and not unguided/lazy/bad writing but…alas.

I’m still super pumped for the anniversary though. I think I will probably have a combustion of feels when Eleven sees Rose.

People grow and change. In my life, I didn’t get Internet friends til my thirties. Before that, some long-distance friends were still very close friends- it doesn’t matter how much time passes, we pick up where we left off. Local friends come and go- sometimes it’s scheduling, sometimes it’s just lack of effort. I’ve found it’s often just circumstance- and if we pick up again, we enjoy each other’s company. It’s just that due to life, our paths don’t cross very often.

I have a three cluster of lady friends, each of which gets together every 4-8 weeks. I try with all my heart to make it to their gatherings. Even if we don’t talk much between those glasses of wine, I value the time spent with them.

THIS!!! A thousand times THIS!! I used to find him darling until last season’s finale! He’d just about redeemed himself in my eyes when he helped Gilly escape and then spanked the king white walker and then?! He leaves the frikkin weapon!!!

Though it did look like those crows (ravens?) were chasing them in the end? I’ll cut him a TINY bit of slack if the birds were gonna pull a Resident Evil on them..

My favorite teachers: Ms. Frizzle for her love of learning and exploring, Mr. Feeny for his strong but caring guidance, and Ms. Grotke from Recess for always being a strong feminist. I always try to incorporate a little of them into my own teaching style.

I feel you on Doctor Who. I’ve kind of stopped watching things after I saw Clara getting too manic pixie dream girl for my taste. I keep hoping it’ll pull out, but I think it’s just going to stay irritating until we get a new head writer.

More importantly, good luck tomorrow! I’m sure they’ll all show up for you, and you’ll ramble in the right way to make sense and get your information across.

Just finished watching last week’s Doctor Who. Every episode I hope for better things, and every week I am more disappointed than the last… I hate Stephen Moffat and what he’s done to Clara, the Doctor, LOGIC, and really the series in general. Boo on him…

Otherwise, I have to defend a research proposal tomorrow. It’s basically the last step before I’m approved to do my dissertation. I am alternately surprisingly calm and terrified I’m overwhelmingly unprepared. My presentation slides are…. not yet what they should be and I haven’t rehearsed the timing at all. What if I don’t tell them all the info they want to know? What if I just start to ramble? I don’t even know what the hell to wear. I keep worrying that one of my committee members will forget to show up. Or that I’ll get into a car accident on the way there in the morning. Aaaaand there comes the overwhelming unprepared feeling. Ugh.

Step 1: take a shower. Step 2…. *shrugs*. Step 3: Profit! er… dissertation!

Me, too. My goodreads is here: http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/4033671-anne – I /loved/ Revolution, and the other I read this year that was awesome was Seraphina, by Rachel Hartman. Dragons! Music! Political intrigue!

I feel like YA has had a renaissance, and I think we can thank Harry Potter for its prominence. I’m pretty pleased by the complexity of so much that’s out there. I think my sister is a little sick of me pushing YA books at her, though. I buy them as gifts for her but it’s really very mercenary – I want to read them myself but still feel like an adult!
