  • As some could tell by the screen name, I have a soft spot for ALW musicals, though they tend to rely on spectacle over character complexity–I grew up with my mom playing the “Cats” and “Jesus Christ, Superstar”  […]

  • Eating out is definitely my favorite indulgence, especially because my husband pretty much only likes food that can be found on an Applebee’s menu.  So when we works late, I’ll take myself out for Indian food, or […]

  • I hate to do this, but it’s Lecter, not Lector.  I only mention this because Silence of the Lambs gave me a huge crush on Anthony Hopkins when I was ten years old.  Kinda-creepy ten-year-old me is indignant!

Thanks, that’s a really good idea…my husband has actually gone with me to therapy before, quite willingly (when we were just dating). I’ll talk to him about it. When we talked on Sunday I tried to convey to him what I wrote, but I feel I’m a better writer than speaker (though writing does lack my trademark quart-of-crying-mucus technique so…[Read more]

    • I’m glad that your husband has been so receptive in the past to going to therapy with you. That shows how much he cares and wants you to be healthy.

I forgot to address your previous therapist. Sometimes I’m just gobsmacked by the things “medical professionals” say to us, as if we are stupid and don’t know ourselves. I have several incidences of…[Read more]

    **TRIGGER WARNING–SUICIDAL THOUGHTS AND SUCH**

So I wasn’t sure what to do, but wanted to talk to someone about this. I have an appointment with a new therapist in early April. I haven’t seen a therapist in about a year, since the last one was rude to me and told me that I was “just lying to [myself]” when I told her I didn’t want kids.

    But…[Read more]

    • I currently am in the throes of Feeling Like Dogshit myself. I think it’s in the air. Bleh.

As for your husband, as you acknowledged, it’s tough for people who haven’t been here themselves. Maybe see if he will go to a therapy session with you after you get established with your new therapist so that he/she can help explain your condition to your…[Read more]

Ok, so I’ve been struggling through 1Q84 for a couple weeks now; usually I can put away books easily, but this one has been a struggle. According to my kindle I’m about halfway through. Can someone tell me if it’s worth continuing to read? All the reviews I’ve read have been pretty good, but the longer I read the more confused I’m getting about…[Read more]

I’ve picked it up twice and just can’t get into it. I’m impressed you’ve made it half way through. I too don’t have much trouble getting through books, but this one I can’t seem to get through long enough to stick with it.

I mean, it’s fun to watch Ryan Seacrest pretend he’s not infuriated, at least!

I’m on E, despite the fact that both Ryan and Kelly annoy the crap out of me.  Why can’t they actually have Joel McHale asking “Who….are you wearing?”

I second “The Devil in the White City”…intriguing. I also liked Bill Bryson’s “At Home,” but I like most everything Bill Bryson does. Erik Larson (who did Devil in the White City) also did one about the American Ambassador living in Germany during Hitler’s rise to power, called “In the Garden of Beasts” (or something like that), that was…[Read more]

I’m about a quarter of the way through it as well–I’m liking it, though it’s a little slow to start to come together. I’m on goodreads, and the reviews on there were quite good, so I’m going to keep hammering away at it.
