The leaves are getting crisp. Giant men are hitting each other for fun. Jam is being made. It is fall, which to me means new TV shows and old TV shows. Well, it means TV in general. One of the best parts of TV shows are their theme songs. I love the intersection of music and visual entertainment. So in honor of fall TV, I bring to you my favorite TV themes of all time. “I do not, however, understand why the woman who brutally tortured me last night, this morning gets pastries.” Continue reading
Last year, I had a shot at saving her. I was pulling her back from the brink when some British guy kidnapped her and made damn sure that she’d never trust another living soul.
I am a mass consumer of pop culture. I watch a lot of TV shows, both good and bad. Continue reading
We’re going to party like it’s 19-
Hold up, it is! No, you didn’t immediately hear Will2k inside your head? I think that song ruled my head for 10 months of that year. Luckily, there were more things going on in 1999.
You guys are going to have a prom. The kind of prom that everyone should have. I’m going to give you all a nice, fun, normal evening if I have to kill every single person on the face of the earth to do it.
I mean, come-come on. What kind of a life can you offer her? I don’t see a lot of Sunday picnics in the offing. I see skulking in the shadows, hiding from the sun. She’s a blossoming young girl and you want to keep her from the life she should have ’til it’s passed her by. And, by God, I think that’s a little selfish. Is that what you came back from Hell for? Is that your greater purpose?
You’re weak. Everybody is. Everybody fails. Maybe this evil did bring you back, but if it did, it’s because it needs you. And that means that you can hurt it. Angel, you have the power to do real good, to make amends. But if you die now, then all that you ever were was a monster.
You’re not friends. You’ll never be friends. You’ll be in love till it kills you both. You’ll fight, and you’ll shag, and you’ll hate each other till it makes you quiver, but you’ll never be friends. Love isn’t brains, children, it’s blood…blood screaming inside you to work its will. I may be love’s bitch, but at least I’m man enough to admit it. Continue reading
I won’t remind you that the fate of the world often lies with the Slayer. What would be the point? Nor shall I remind you that you’ve jeopardized the lives of all that you hold dear by harboring a known murderer. But, sadly, I must remind you that Angel tortured me… for hours… for pleasure. You should have told me he was alive. You didn’t. You have no respect for me or the job I perform.
Passion. It lies in all of us. Sleeping… waiting… And though unwanted, unbidden… it will stir, open its jaws, and howl. It speaks to us, guides us. Passion rules us all. And we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love… the clarity of hatred… and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion, maybe we’d know some kind of peace. But we would be hollow. Empty rooms, shuttered and dank. Without passion, we’d be truly dead. Continue reading
I wish dating was like slaying. You know, simple, direct, stake to the heart, no muss, no fuss.
Last week we checked in on Willow’s love life and the week before we visited the horrorshow of Buffy’s relationship, so of course it’s time to check in on our other Scooby couple, Cordelia and Xander. There’s a lot to love in this episode and a surprising amount of foreshadowing that’s hidden in the small print ““ Spike’s human past as an unsuccessful poet (“It doesn’t have to be. What rhymes with lungs?”), Willow’s streak of hidden aggression (axe!), Amy’s rat transformation spell, and Xander’s mucking around with magic, causing chaos (“Once More with Feeling”). This is also the episode that introduces the phrase “The Big Bad.” Continue reading
Aunt Maureen. Hey, it’s me. Um, what? Oh! It’s, uh… actually it’s healing okay. That’s pretty much the reason I called. Um, I wanted to ask you something. Is Jordy a werewolf? Uh-huh. And how long has that been going on? Uh-huh. What? No, no reason. Um… Thanks. Yeah, love to Uncle Ken. Continue reading
She made me feel like a human being. That’s not the kind of thing you just forgive. Continue reading
