With this week marking the 20th anniversary of Oasis’ Definitely Maybe arriving in the world, I needed even less minimal encouragement to talk once more about the band. Because I do not own that outstanding album on vinyl, and because I’d need a book-length space (á la 33 1/3 Books) to fully articulate my thoughts, instead let’s turn our attention to Oasis’ last single, this surreal Amorphous Androgynous remix of the Noel Gallagher-sung “Falling Down.”
Friends, I can’t help it – if one of my favorite musicians puts out a limited edition or otherwise rare piece of music, I am compelled to buy it. Yes, sometimes those special releases are beyond personal affordability, but when Beady Eye released their single “The Roller” as a numbered 7″, I had to own it.
Yes, it does seem a bit silly to talk about 2013 in music when it’s only halfway done and dusted, but already I’ve heard some really excellent tunes. We’ve got a sturdy Top 10 this time, in no particular order, of all the songs that have excited me the most.
2011 became the year when so many of my favorites decided to have new releases, and it became a very happy listening time. In some ways, it’s difficult to say which song from the following fifteen is my favorite, but once you reach the end, it will be obvious to anyone who has followed my music writing. Still, play all these songs and enjoy. I hope you love them.
