Ladyghosts of TV Past: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Episode 2.17, “Passion”

Passion. It lies in all of us. Sleeping… waiting…  And though unwanted, unbidden… it will stir, open its jaws, and howl. It speaks to us, guides us. Passion rules us all. And we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love… the clarity of hatred… and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion, maybe we’d know some kind of peace. But we would be hollow. Empty rooms, shuttered and dank. Without passion, we’d be truly dead. Ladyghosts of TV Past: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, S2, E16, “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered”

I wish dating was like slaying. You know, simple, direct, stake to the heart, no muss, no fuss.

Last week we checked in on Willow’s love life and the week before we visited the horrorshow of Buffy’s relationship, so of course it’s time to check in on our other Scooby couple, Cordelia and Xander. There’s a lot to love in this episode and a surprising amount of foreshadowing that’s hidden in the small print ““ Spike’s human past as an unsuccessful poet (“It doesn’t have to be. And how long has that been going on? Uh-huh. What? No, no reason. Um… Thanks. Yeah, love to Uncle Ken. Read More Ladyghosts of TV Past: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, S2, E15 “Phases”

Persephone Outfits for Our Favorite Ladyghosts

Selena’s use of backgrounds in her Polyvore post inspired me to try them out–up to this point, I’ve been wary of backgrounds because they tend to turn weirdly transparent and be generally difficult to work with. But after some trial and error, I was able to find some cool backdrops to work with this week’s theme–outfits inspired by some of Persephone’s favorite television characters. Great TV Feminists

While it’s still unusual to actually hear the word feminist used in a positive way on TV, there has been a fairly impressive list of feminist characters on network and cable TV.  Among the shrewish wives, the self-absorbed singles and the super mommies who normally fill the airwaves, we found some great lady role models who weren’t afraid to wear their feminism on their sleeves.
