Ladyghosts: The West Wing, Episode 2.13, “Bartlet’s Third State of the Union”

Good afternoon, Sorkinite Persephoneers.  We’re back to talk about The West Wing, and one of my favorite episodes of the series. Grab a cuppa, get comfy, and join me for this pants-optional journey into the fictional White House. Read More Ladyghosts: The West Wing, Episode 2.13, “Bartlet’s Third State of the Union”

LadyGhosts of TV Past: The West Wing, Episode 2.12, “The Drop In”

“The Drop In” opens in the situation room, with Leo watching a missile defense exercise. Bartlet started the day by installing the ambassador to Thailand. Leo summons Bartlet to watch the missile interceptor, and as they walk to the situation room, Bartlet explains to Leo how he is the Charlie Brown of missile defense. The exercise fails, and Bartlet exits by saying to Leo, “Oh good grief.” Poor Leo. Read More LadyGhosts of TV Past: The West Wing, Episode 2.12, “The Drop In”

LadyGhosts of TV Past: TWW 2.11 “The Leadership Breakfast”

This episode opens with Donna questioning the wisdom of Josh and Sam trying to start a fire in a White House that has apparently lost heat for the evening. Donna’s convinced they’re going to burn the White House down, and when Sam walks in with the kerosene, she may just be right. Read More LadyGhosts of TV Past: TWW 2.11 “The Leadership Breakfast”

Lady Ghosts of TV Past: The West Wing, Episode 2.10: “Noel”

I stole this week’s West Wing recap from Sally J., because “Noël” is probably my favorite episode of the series. Not for the plot, “Two Cathedrals,” which is coming up in a few weeks, wins for best plot. “Noël” is my favorite episode because of one fifteen-second monologue from Leo to Josh. I cry every time I hear it. Read More Lady Ghosts of TV Past: The West Wing, Episode 2.10: “Noel”

Ladyghosts: The West Wing 2.09, “Galileo”

It’s West Wing Wednesday, and this may turn out to be one of the shortest TWW recaps I’ve ever written. (Update: It’s not.) Not because I can’t be wordy about TWW, which we all know isn’t the case, but because this is one of the few Sorkin-penned episodes where not much happens.

That’s okay. We’re gearing up for some really fantastic episodes a little later this season, and this quiet little one-off episode actually has a lot of really nice moments. Read More Ladyghosts: The West Wing 2.09, “Galileo”

Lady Ghosts: TWW 2.08, “Shibboleth”

In this Thanksgiving episode, religious freedom is examined in different angles. The discussions of prayer in school and granting asylum for religious reasons are played out all neatly wrapped up with a Thanksgiving proclamation at the end. Read More Lady Ghosts: TWW 2.08, “Shibboleth”

Ladyghosts: TWW 2.07 “The Portland Trip”

Fasten your seatbelts and make sure your tray tables are in a locked and upright position.  We’re taking off on an Air Force One-based adventure for this week’s The West Wing, and we get to enjoy some grade-A aeronautic set porn. Read More Ladyghosts: TWW 2.07 “The Portland Trip”

Ladyghosts: The West Wing 2.05, “And It’s Surely to Their Credit”

Sorkin loves Gilbert and Sullivan, and bully for Sorkin. I’m the worst theater degree holding person in the world, because I find Gilbert and Sullivan to be three prissy librettos beyond insufferable. When I saw this episode was going to fall on my watch, I groaned.  I think I prefer Toe Pick to Gilbert and Sullivan. Read More Ladyghosts: The West Wing 2.05, “And It’s Surely to Their Credit”
