Ladyghosts: The West Wing 01.18 “Six Meetings Before Lunch”

Welcome, Wednesday Ladyghost fans!  Today we’re talking about one of the more infamous episodes of The West Wing, the one where CJ lip syncs to “The Jackal.”  And a bunch of other stuff happens, too.  Grab your noon coffee and settle in for “Six Meetings Before Lunch.” Read More Ladyghosts: The West Wing 01.18 “Six Meetings Before Lunch”

Ladyghosts: The West Wing 1×17, “20 Hours in L.A.”

We’re in the home stretch for season one, with only six more episodes to go. Today’s recap is for an episode that isn’t one of my favorites, but it does have a lot of cameos. I think these two things may be related. There’s no ToePick, which is something, and there is a lot of CJ humor, and since she is our Goddess, that is always welcome.

Ladyghosts of TV Past: The West Wing 1.15, “Celestial Navigation”

After last week’s stand-alone episode, “Take this Sabbath Day,” we get right back to a more typical three-to-five storyline episode. Sorkin uses one of my favorite techniques in this episode, where the story is told in flashback style. Josh is narrating the past thirty-six hours to an audience listening to a lecture about what life in the White House is like. Throughout the episode, Josh’s cell phone is ringing, and he’s continuing the be briefed on a sensitive situation he can’t disclose. Ladyghosts: The West Wing 1.14 “Take This Sabbath Day”

There are a handful of The West Wing episodes that have stuck with me through the years.  “Two Cathedrals,” “In Excelsis Deo,” and “In the Shadow of Two Gunmen” are the biggest ones, and probably among the favorites of most TWW fans.  “Take This Sabbath Day” is a quieter episode than any of those three,  and it’s the subtlety of this episode that makes it pack as much of a punch. LadyGhosts of TV Past: The West Wing 1.13, “Take out the Trash Day”

This episode opens with CJ holding her press briefing, with some good ribbing for Danny. This briefing brings to light one of the episode’s storylines – the invitation to Lydells, the parents of a boy who was brutally murdered for being gay. Toe Pick mentions to CJ that the parents didn’t seem to be very supportive of the president, and CJ is ready to throttle her right there. Ladyghosts: The West Wing 1.12 “He Shall From Time to Time”

Good afternoon, Persephoneers!  It’s my turn to talk about The West Wing, and this episode is a doozy.  Season one of The West Wing was able to achieve a near-perfect balance between plot, character development and larger themes, and “He Shall From Time to Time” is one of the better examples of this strength.  Read More Ladyghosts: The West Wing 1.12 “He Shall From Time to Time”

Ladyghosts of TV Past: The West Wing, Episode 1.11 “Lord John Marbury”

Last week in the course of one of our epic email conversations (newsflash: Selena and I are O-L-D), I volunteered my services to help with The West Wing recaps. The West Wing holds a special place in my heart – it’s one of the few dramas that Mr. Sally J and I equally enjoyed, and it’s just a freakishly good show. I can’t even describe how good it is – so if you haven’t caved already, just go buy the boxed set already. If you don’t believe me, start with Season 1 and then ask for the next season for your birthday. Read More Ladyghosts of TV Past: The West Wing, Episode 1.11 “Lord John Marbury”

Ladyghosts: The West Wing, Season 1.10 “In Excelsis Deo”

The moment has arrived, Persephoneer West Wing fans.  It’s time to talk about the episode of our beloved show that may be the most poignant, as well as the most heartbreaking, of the entire series.  I know some of  you will argue with me, and that’s fine, I have plenty of room to defend my choice up here.
