2001 is a hard one for me – not for lack of great music, but more because I was a depressed human making bad decisions during most of that year, and come that September, the national climate took its own downturn. The feels, man. Let’s have them.
1995, I thought you were a mere lead-up to the excitement of 1996, but turns out you are one of the most difficult years to narrow down to just fifteen songs yet. In the end, I had to go with the songs I still absolutely love, while regrettably leaving out a few nostalgic favorites. Sorry, “Gangsta’s Paradise.”
The Letter Y is all about You, naturally. You are all so very lovely.
Oh, The Letter L is a good one this week because I am sharing some of my All-Time Favorite Songs, of any letter. In some ways, it was difficult to articulate why these songs make all the right parts of my brain light up, and it’s tempting to just say, “Well, listen! It’s obvious,” but no, we do know I still like to go on a bit.
Oh, friends, D has a surprising amount of great songs. I probably could have easily swapped in so many here, but sometimes my choices come down to two criteria: 1) Do I have a story behind loving this song? 2) Every time I hear this song, do I say/think, “This really is one of the best songs ever,” and feel compelled to sing along? These songs meet those criteria. I hope you like them, too.
