The Queen of Sheba

We’re all somewhat familiar with the story of the Queen of Sheba: of how she, a very clever and wise woman in her own right, made a visit to the kingdom of Israel because she wanted to see for herself if the stories about the cleverness and wisdom of its king were true. But what has been depicted in popular culture until quite recently contradicts what history tells us about the Queen. In many paintings and movies inspired by the story, the Queen is portrayed as a Caucasian woman. Given that it has been determined that the Queen’s realm was located in what is now Ethiopia and Yemen, such depictions are extremely inaccurate.
