We’re less dance party and more on the loud guitars this week, friends. 1991 had its fair share of widely considered “important” albums, but I’ve managed a few quieter gems as well. Let’s get to it.
1988 has me going a bit oddball in comparison to my usual tastes, but a few All-Time Favorite Songs shuffle into the mix. And once again, I realize that Young Me had some rather telling crushes.
If you had told Teenage-Me that Adult-Me would end up liking so many songs from the 1980s, Teenage-Me would have declared Adult-Me extremely lame. Or whatever dismissive term I might have been using in the mid-’90s. Not cool, anyhow. Somewhat unsurprisingly, I no longer care whether or not I’m very cool, so let the singalong begin…
Since we’ve reached the end of my ongoing Alphabet Soup column, I’ve spent some time considering how I might continue to satisfy my musical list-making urges. I wanted something with a nice round number, something that keeps giving me the chance to talk about music I love, rather than what is “important.” Sometimes, love and importance overlap, but above all other criteria, I want to talk about the songs that make me say, “Yesss… This.”

Ah, the first really lovely week of spring. It brings back such memories! Of driving around for hours with my BFF with the windows down, the music, blaring, and then heat on because while it was fairly warm, there was still enough chill in the air that it got a little nippy at 65 mph. Oh, and memories of gas being cheap enough that one could even contemplate driving around for several hours, just for funsies.
