Welcome to the second edition of Cool Jobs Thursdays, the feature in which I turn my obsessive help-wanted perusing skills and ample time spent on the internet to public good. You know how when you chop all your hair off you can’t help but reach up to twirl your missing strands? That’s how job searching feels for me now that I’m working full time. Not only is it an anxious habit, ingrained over months of panic that I might blink and miss the perfect opportunity to finally be able to stop borrowing money from my younger brother, it’s also a sort of fun daydream fodder.

I spent most of the last year unemployed. It sucked. It was probably the worst time of my life, including the time I broke my leg and was on crutches for months and had to learn to carry soda cans in my cleavage and was eighteen years old and had to have my mother wash my hair because otherwise I couldn’t balance in the bathtub.

I’m not gonna lie, the soda can trick has proved useful, but there never seem to be a whole lot of positive life experiences blossoming out of months and months of scouring newspapers and the Internet for a job.
