1987 – The Year Music First Expressed My Love

Subtitle: The lyrical journey of a hormone-crazed 17 year old

When I was offered the opportunity to submit something to do with the summer I was 17, only the topic of music would do as it defined me at the time. Coincidentally, it happened to be the first summer I found myself penning odes in a letter that would accompany the “mix cassette” I would painstakingly create for the objects of my desire . So I decided to review some of my favorite sonnets, and to my awe there was a common carnal thread flowing subtly and insidiously through them. Here are five that eptiomized my perverted chivalric bent.

I want you now Tomorrow won’t do
There’s a yearning inside And it’s showing through
Reach out your hands And accept my love
We’ve waited for too long Enough is enough
I want you now

Depeche Mode, I Want You Now

I wanna kiss you hold you never scold you just love you
suck on your neck, caress you and rub you
Grind moan and never be alone
if you’re not standing next to me you’re on the phone

LL Cool J, I Need Love

It’s natural, It’s chemical (let’s do it)
It’s logical, Habitual (can we do it?)
It’s sensual, But most of all…
Sex is something we should do
Sex is something for me and you
Sex is natural – sex is good
Not everybody does it
But everybody should
Sex is natural – sex is fun
Sex is best when it’s… One on one
One on one

George Michael, I Want Your Sex (Part I)

I think about it baby all the time, all right
It feels so good it must be a crime, all right
I wanna do it baby every day, all right
In a bed, on the stairs, anywhere, all right
I wanna do it baby all the time, all right
‘Cuz when we do it girl, it’s so divine, all right

Prince, It

I need you tonight
‘Cause I’m not sleeping
There’s something about you, girl
That makes me sweat

INXS, Need You Tonight
