We Try It: Kiss My Face Peaches and Creme Moisturizer

This is going to be the first in a series of reviews about products I am using to combat my adult acne.  In the absence of insurance, I have been on an ongoing quest to fight my adult-onset acne using drugstore products.  I have finally found a combination that seems to be working for me and I want to share it with the world!

Kiss My Face moisturizerI had heard good things about the Kiss My Face Peaches and Creme Moisturizer.  It has AHA, which Wikipedia tells me is an exfoliant.  Perfect!  To use an analogy I saw someone else use, my skin has taken on the texture of a Krackle bar with lots of flesh-colored bumps that stick around forever.  I figured that getting some of that dead skin off would help my pores from getting clogged and turning into one of those nubby toothbrushes you use to brush dog teeth.

After only a couple days of using the Kiss My Face moisturizer, most of the bumps have all but disappeared.  The lotion absorbs into my skin rapidly and doesn’t leave it feeling greasy.  It’s hard to say if it’s the moisturizer or the cooler weather, but for the first time in recent memory I wake up without my face feeling like it’s dripping oil.  It also seems like the red marks from old pimples are fading faster than they were before, and it hasn’t aggravated my acne at all.

I really like the smell of the moisturizer, although I read some reviews where people were comparing it to ammonia or cat urine.  It just smells like artificial peach scent to me, which I like.

This is probably best for someone with oily skin, as my skin has dried out a little.  If it’s starting to feel dry, I put on my regular Aveeno lotion in the evening, just for one night.  It’s heavier and moisturizes my skin a little more.  Then the next day I go back to the Kiss My Face.

Try It!  So far I am very pleased with my results.

If you want to try something a little stronger, I’d recommend Alpha Hydrox products. They have 5% and 10% AHA in a cream, lotion and oil-free gel. But anyone who’s using AHAs for the first time should always start slowly with something like this Kiss My Face moisturizer, then move onto something stronger once you no longer get positive results.

I have very oily skin, but also get scaly, dry patches just below my mouth (think lip corners and below). This is going to sound odd/gross, but near the end of my shower — after I’ve been steamed thoroughly — I use my fingernails (they don’t have to be long for this to work) to scrape off the old skin and oil. I go over my whole face, but the motherload is in the aforementioned area. It seems to be the only thing that really works for me. The benefit of using fingers is I have a lot more control over how much pressure is being used.I think of it like men shaving… when men shave daily they are essentially doing the same thing.
