Several years ago, I tried NaNoWriMo but didn’t get very far. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I am an essayist and short story writer. I don’t have the attention span to hold onto a topic for long enough to churn out a whole novel. I like the words I string together to be short and sweet. I prefer to write verbal snapshots and slices of life over epic, sprawling tales.
But damn it all if I don’t like to read those things. So today, m dear NaNo friends, today I would like to be your cheerleader. By Day 4, the excitement of the start of a new project has waned in the face of the crushing volume of words you must continue to produce. You’re sprinting a marathon here, after all! But don’t think about editing, and don’t worry about making things perfect. As the delightful and talented Jay Smooth says, we’ve all got a little hater in our head. Don’t let him get you down. You can do it!
And if you need a laugh, check out the Ballad of the Little Hater.
Hang in there, and just keep swimming!

I love you for posting just keep swimming. I would like that phrase tattooed across my chest, backwards, so I can look at it in the mirror when I’m feeling stressed.
When they invent gif tattoos, I want one implanted in me.

You have to go to Diagon Alley to get one of those! ;)
