Good afternoon, readers! I hope everyone’s Tuesday is rolling along smoothly. We’ve been a bit harried on our end, but hopefully by the time you read this we’re back on schedule and bringing you the good stuff in a timely manner.
The topic of today’s lunchtime poll was inspired by Mr. McIntosh, and should be a lot of fun. The theme today: that song doesn’t say what you think it says. Mr. McIntosh won me over with his story of mishearing Steve Winwood’s “Higher Love” as ‘iron lung,’ as in “bring me an iron lung.” I’ve never been able to hear it the same since. What lyrics have you mangled in your short term memories, readers?

For years I thought Shannon Hoon was singing “I like to keep my sheets dry today,” not “I’d like to keep my cheeks dry today,” in “No Rain.” I thought it was his way of telling us he was a bed-wetter.
The line in Tiny Dancer that goes “lay me down in sheets of linen” I thought was “lay me down and she’s so blended” and I still sing it like that to myself.
I can go further. I was young and misheard the lyric as “lay me down in streets of Lenin”.
