Good afternoon, EST’ers! If you’re working this Monday, hope it’s filled with sunshine. If not, I hope your family isn’t driving you nuts. Today’s lunchtime poll is a really simple one, we’re up to our earlobes in wrapping paper and sugar cookies over here. What song always brings your mood up, no matter how many times you hear it?

I need “f*ck me” tunes, the slow dirty grind ones like Chris Isaak’s “Don’t Make Me Dream About You”, NIN’s “Closer”, “I Want You to Want Me” by Cheap Trick or Chris Isaak. Weird, huh? It takes me to a totally different place. And gets the blood flowing.
But for real pick me ups I stick with the soundtrack to “Singin’ In the Rain”, especially “Moses Supposes”, “Ready For Love”, and “Good Morning”. I found a cassette at Goodwill for $1 and play it in my car from time to time.
Ministry’s ‘Twitch’ will also get blood flowing
Santa Drive a Hotrod Brian Setzer Boogie Woogie Santa Claus (damn Close second)
Oh so many, I can’t even list them all. “Just Like Heaven” & “Friday I’m in Love” by the Cure, “In the Name of Love”, “Desire”, and “Elevation” by U2, “Me & Bobby McGee” by Janis, most any musical soundtrack, “Suddenly I See” by KT….so, so many!
I walked down the aisle to an instrumental rendition of “Just Like Heaven”. Favourite song of ever!
“Merry Happy” by Kate Nash. I always recommend it when someone is looking for positive or I’m-heartbroken-now-but-I’ll-be-fine songs. I played it over and over one summer while I was trying to get over a recently-ended relationship, and it never fails to make me feel good.
There are so many, from ‘What a day for a Daydream’ by The Lovin’ Spoonful to ‘It Doesn’t Matter’ by Wycleff Jean and The Rock, but the number one, in case of extreme mood emergencies song is Mephiskapheles’ cover of the Bumblebee Tuna song. Especially when accompanied by this YouTube video:
Paolo Nutini – New Shoes
Oh New Shoes is a GREAT ONE!
