Ladies, there is a serious problem brewing in Washington. Right now, the GOP is taking advantage of their House majority by trying to severely limit your access to abortion. PersephoneMag’s Meghan Williams has already covered the basics, so read all about it if you aren’t up to date.
Thankfully, we girls (and allies of all genders) are fighting back. One of my Tumblr BFs, The Humorless Feminist (also known as Raven) has stepped up to the plate and is organizing a world-wide Walk for Choice.
Raven originally planned to set this up for Chicago, where she lives (and my home town). But thanks to the awesome power of the Internet, Walk for Choice is now an international event. According to the official Walk for Choice Tumblr, events are planned in:
All of those links lead to the specific Facebook event pages. Plans are underway for rallies in:
- Italy
- Texas/Oklahoma
- Northwestern University
- Ohio
- New York
- Pennsylvania
- Wisconsin
This is an amazing opportunity to show your support for a woman’s right to choose. Here’s Raven’s official statement:
“While most Americans are demanding jobs, the GOP seems to have made overturning Roe v. Wade its top priority. Last week’s events in Congress surrounding H.R.3 (No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act) struck a nerve with activists here in Illinois. We are now harnessing the power of social networking to organize demonstrations across the globe. As a young woman who receives Medicaid, I am personally affected by this latest attack on abortion access.”
Our color for the protests is orange… which means I have to go and find an orange shirt, but yeah. Please, please get involved with Walk for Choice. Contact their Tumblr if you want to plan one for your city, or if you have any questions.
Egypt has shown us the power of protests. We can do it, ladies. It’s our right to have access to safe, legal abortion.

any NYC plans?
Plans for a walk in VA, NC or TN? Even GA?
I will be in DC! Will any of you fine people be there? We’re supposed to wear orange?
Thank you so much for posting this. I’ll be attending the Boston event, and I will spread the word and recruit as many people as I can.
This is fantastic! Not so fantastic is that it is needing to be planned at all.
I promise I’ll walk in solidarity for my US friends.
Thank you so much for this – I’ve posted this article to my pro-choice group’s FB page, and I’m going to try to organize a trip for us to the DC march. This is critical.
