We’re well over halfway done with Middlemarch Madness. We’ve trimmed 48 brave, wonderful, badass women and young women from our original field, and now we’re down to the final sixteen contenders. They’ll face off next week, with two poll questions per day instead of our usual four.
Tonight, we’re just going to reveal the winners from last night and the complete list of ladies who are moving on.
The Winners
In YA Sci-fi/Fantasy/Dystopia the winner is Meg Murray (60%) over Alanna (40%)
In YA Fiction, Scout Finch (88%) is the easy winner over Karana (12%).
In Adult Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Dystopia Morgaine (70%) defeats Gytha Ogg (30%).
In Adult Fiction Offred (67%) beats Sethe (33%).

I’m telling you, this is going to be Offred vs. Hermione with Offred for the win. I know Jo March is stiff competition, but that’s how I think it’s going to go down.
I think you are correct.
Also, I like that the book covers are shown. I loved that “Wrinkle in Time” cover so much when I was younger!
I will have no escape from broken book heart with this Sweet Sixteen. How, HOW can I possible choose between some of these match-ups?
I see many tears on my pillow, pain in my heart caused by youuuu, you, you!
I’m putting it out there right now.. I’m team Lyra and team all things Pratchett!
Shirley! Shirley! Shirley!
Sigh. Karana, you deserve so much better. But I know you will take this loss, and go bravely forward with dignity.
Team Jessica!
So happy to see Katniss recognized here, my new favorite heroine!
TEAM LYRA FOREVER. My daemon and I want you to vote Lyra.
I thumbs upped this comment. I am not sure what that does, but I am also Team Lyra forever!
I’m a little bit more than slightly disheartened to learn that Meg Murray beat out Alanna of Trebond.
That said: TEAM LYRA FOREVER.
I was thinking of you when I decided to put of the next vote until Monday. I was afraid the stress of 72 hours of not knowing who won between Lyra and Hermione would be too much. : )
I dunno… The Hermione ladies are legion, man. Lyra’s going to have a tough fight.
Me too. :( I still read the Tortall books whenever she publishes one. Alanna was my favorite.
I think every one of my favorites is still in. The next rounds are going to break my heart almost as much as having to choose between Luna and Hermione.
Yay Offred! It’s very bittersweet as I was also pulling for Sethe to make it far, but I really think she might be able to take the whole thing.
I’m so glad that two of my favorites are still in it. I hope that a video of Queen singing We Are The Champions accompanies the announcement of the winner.
