Lunchtime Poll

LTP: 5/31

Welcome back, all! For today’s poll we are going to the movies. What actor/actress/director do you like enough that their involvement in a movie is enough to make you go see it? For instance, I’ve been known to say, “I don’t care if they say it’s crap, if Nicolas Cage is in it, I’ll watch it.”

(Ed. Note: Due to technical difficulties, Hattie’s poll was ghostwritten by SaraB. Hattie may or may not share SaraB’s unconditional love for Nick Cage, but if she doesn’t, she should really watch “Valley Girl” again and reconsider.)

Jonathon Rhys Meyers, although I still haven’t seen August Rush. I will at least try anything Joss Whedon’s involved in. Hey, Serenity’s a movie, he counts. I don’t watch enough movies to have a lot of other people on my list, although there are plenty that would tip me into seeing one movie over another.

I will see anything Kate Winslet does because I think she’s fabulously talented and usually picks really interesting projects. Clementine from Eternal Sunshine is one of my favorite movie characters ever. Also, I have a huge crush on her.
Others: Johnny Depp, Carey Mulligan, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Toni Collette, Steve Carell. I’m sure I’ll think of tons more as soon as I post this.

I will see anything by Tim Burton the day it comes out.

And as a duty to my teenage obsession, I will see and have seen everything with Brad Pitt

Other actors that will draw me in Cate Blanchett, Jonathon Rhy Meyers, Tina Fey, Will Arnett, Judi Dench, Helena Bonham Carter, Alec Baldwin, Amy Poehler, Cillian Murphy and Julianne Moore,

I can think of only two people I would automatically shell out for, and they’re my favorite actors, who coincidentally starred together in my favorite movie ever. I will see any Leonardo Dicaprio project, and any Kate Winslet project, and when they did Revolutionary Road I saw it on opening day. Titanic is still my favorite movie, despite its flaws, and I think Leo will probably always be my favorite actor. Can’t wait for J. Edgar!

I’ll see anything Christopher Guest makes and love it unconditionally. Most of my must-sees are six degrees or less from Guest; Jamie Lee Curtis (minus lady poop yogurt), Mandy Patinkin, Jane Lynch and Parker Posey.

I used to love Cage pretty hard. I even like Con Air and The Rock. He’s made some pretty questionable choices in the past decade or so, however, and my love wanes. It’s hard to believe that the dude in Adaptation is the same dude as The Movie with the Hat of Bees.

There are actors, writers and directors I like but I just don’t go to the theaters enough or watch enough movies to really say “I’ve seen everything so-and-so did.”
Oh, wait, no. I have seen and own everything James Dean did. I even have a poster of him. Framed.
So, James, you are the best. Thank you.

Also, today and tomorrow are vacation days for me and only two people know about it – no one else can bother me, nag me to help them with stuff or just do anything with them. I am hiding and cleaning. It is awesome. (everyone at work knows but that’s like 8 people) I’ve been up for 3 hours and have gotten two loads of laundry done, ran the dishwasher once, hand washed some delicate stuff and emptied my kitchen composting bucket. SO MUCH GETTING DONE.

Great poll question. Some years back I would see anything Sandra Bullock was in, and then there was “Two Weeks Notice” and “The Lake House,” so that ended that. After Sandra I followed Paul Bettany’s career with enthusiasm. Now I will see most anything featuring John Malkovich.

SaraB, I had such a crush on Nic Cage when I was a teenager… that chick Julie, she’s truly dazzling. It kind of faded a bit during the yicky sex scene in City of Angels, but then returned with Gone in Sixty Seconds.

I will see anything with Winslet or Blanchett in it. Also Hugh Jackman. And Jason Segel.

I love Christopher Nolan and Baz Lurhmann, so I’ll see anything they direct or are involved with.

Actor-wise, there are a few that I think are so talented that almost anything they do is worth seeing (Johnny Depp, Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, Ryan Gosling, Nicole Kidman). And some others that I have crushes on and thus will watch almost anything they do (everybody from the previous category, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jake Gyllenhaal, Eva Green, Anne Hathaway).
