Greetings, Persephoneers! I hope this week is off to a good start and that you showed Monday who’s boss. Let’s talk about something relaxing like TV, shall we?
Saturday night, Mr. Sally J and I started in on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip on Netflix Instant, and I have to say, it’s a great show. It’s got the great Aaron Sorkin writing, the ever-enjoyable (to me at least) Matthew Perry, Bradley Whitford, and DL Hughley, and Amanda Peet as cast headlners, and some funny premises. All it was missing, apparently, was ratings to keep it around another season. We’re on episode 13; nine more to go and we’ll be done.
What are some of your favorite series that were canceled before they were really able to fulfill their full potential?

I can’t believe there is no mention of Arrested Development yet?! And My So Called Life for SURE. Freaks n Geeks (aka My So Called Life resurrected)…
And I know Scrubs was way past its prime, but I’d watch it every day forever and ever and ever.
Mr. Show.
Of course Firefly, but also Clone High. Though clearly it was only meant to be one season, that show should have had at least Clone College: The Freshman Year. I can just imagine the shenanigans Gandhi would get into.
Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies (I smell a Bryan Fuller theme), Firefly, Joan of Arcadia, and MY SO-CALLED FRIGGIN’ LIFE. I miss all of them!
I just finished watching the 20 episodes netflix had of Party Down. The cast is all people everyone knows from other shows/movies.
I loved Studio 60. It was definintely stronger in the beginning (and the fact that they had to incorporate Amanda Peet’s pregnancy messed with the plot), but all the characters were great, especially Harriet.
My number-one canceled-too-soon show is Pushing Daisies. Yeah, it got two seasons, but it deserved so much better. I loved everything about it- it was the perfect blend of morbid and sweet, the dialogue was clever, the costumes and sets were beautiful. I miss it.
I will forever be cranky about FOX canceling Dark Angel. I mean, it wasn’t the best show on TV but it was compelling, and had a decent cast.
Still bitter.
