In honor of the epic two part Harry Potter movie, I have decided to do Two Part Potter Trivia. Don’t worry, I won’t make you wait months for part 2, you’ll be able to see it next week. Tonight we will be answering questions from books 1-4 and next week we will finish with books 5-7. So grab your wands and broomsticks, Potter fans, and answer me this:
- How does Hagrid camoflage his semi-functional broken wand?
- How is the Wingardium Leviosa spell responsible for Harry, Ron and Hermione’s friendship?
- At the end-of-year feast, who is awarded the points that push Gryffindor into the lead for the coveted House Cup award?
- What does Dobby dump on Aunt Marge in an attempt to get Harry into so much trouble that he won’t be allowed to go to Hogwarts?
- How does Harry kill the memory of Tom Riddle in the Chamber of Secrets?
- How does Harry get away from the Dursley’s in The Prisioner of Azkaban?
- When Scabbers disappears from Ron’s room, presumably eaten by Crookshanks, where is he later found?
- What is Hermione’s time travel device called?
- Name the two portkeys used in The Goblet of Fire.
- What were the three things Voldemort needed to come back to life?
Alright my lovelies, now comment to your heart’s content.

This is too easy.
1. in his pink umbrella
2. after the lesson where they learn the spell and Ron makes fun of her, she hides in a bathroom, ends up being cornered by a troll and Ron uses the spell to to knock the troll out and save all their lives. She then takes all the blame and voila! friendship.
3. Neville Longbottom
4. a pudding
5. by stabbing the diary with a broken-off basilisks fang
6. He runs off and accidentally summons the Knight Bus
7. In Hagrid`s cottage, in his spare milk jug
8. a time-turner
9. the battered galosh on the hill to go to the Quidditch world cup, and the trophy for the Triwizard tournament
10. Bone of his father unknowingly taken, flesh of the servant willingly given, and the blood of his enemy forcibly taken
Oof! ok
1 an umbrella
2 Hermione helps them out with it…? (I forget! I never reread the first two books!)
3 Neville?
4 For some reason, I want to say porridge.
5 He stabs the diary (with a basilisk fang, I think)
6 No idea!
7 in the Shrieking Shack
8 Time Turner
9 an old boot, and the Triwizard Cup
10 blood, a life, and bone…
eep! Okay, I’m reading #3 right now! Oh, I hope I do well…
How does Hagrid camoflage his semi-functional broken wand?
Pink Umbrella
How is the Wingardium Leviosa spell responsible for Harry, Ron and Hermione’s friendship?
lifts the ogre (ogre? troll? ugly?) in the air and knocks the beast out thus saving Hermione’s life in the girls’ bathroom.
At the end-of-year feast, who is awarded the points that push Gryffindor into the lead for the coveted House Cup award?
Neville! Stood up to his friends! Good boy. (and No! I did not cry at this point in the book! I did not!)
What does Dobby dump on Aunt Marge in an attempt to get Harry into so much trouble that he won’t be allowed to go to Hogwarts?
Was it Aunt Marge or Mrs. Mason? I’m confused. Dobby drops the dessert but I’m a bit confused because the movie and the book have different story lines here concerning Dobby. But Aunt Marge puffs up like a balloon! Fingers like sausages! :) (Harry does that though, no Dobby.)
How does Harry kill the memory of Tom Riddle in the Chamber of Secrets? Basalisk’s fang (I can’t spell it) Giant snake with poisonous fang.
How does Harry get away from the Dursley’s in The Prisioner of Azkaban? Runs away on the Knight Bus. I love the Knight Bus…
When Scabbers disappears from Ron’s room, presumably eaten by Crookshanks, where is he later found? In the books I haven’t gotten that far – actually just stopped where the cat jumps on Harry. But I think he’s found in a hallway, with help from the Marauder’s Map? Accidentally. (I’m thinking of the movie plotline at this point)
What is Hermione’s time travel device called? Also not to this point yet and I can’t remember the name from the movie. I was too busy being mesmerized by the GIANT extendable chain that Hermione wraps around Harry and herself. Seriously, where did all that chain come from? Also, Ron was lying helplessly in pain in the bed. :( So, you can see that I would be distracted.
Name the two portkeys used in The Goblet of Fire. A boot and the goblet trophy.
What were the three things Voldemort needed to come back to life? Ew. Bone of the father (unwilling removed), flesh of the servant (willingly given), blood of the enemy (forcefully taken).
woah, sorry for the length. Also, for the part about Scabbers, totally typed the wrong thing – too quick I guess. The cat jumps on Ron’s bag where the rat is hiding. Why did I type Harry? sheesh.
YES. This is exciting.
1. A pink umbrella.
2. Ron uses it to levitate the troll’s club and knock it out, rescuing Hermione. This is followed by that terrible line about how there are a few things that people can’t go through without becoming friends, and knocking out a troll is one of them (Love you Jo, but not your best writing).
3. Neville freaking Longbottom!
4. In Chamber of Secrets, he drops a pudding during the Dursleys’ dinner party. In Prisoner of Azkaban, he accidentally blows up Aunt Marge.
5. Stabs his (Horcrux) diary with a basilisk fang.
6. He accidentally hails The Knight Bus when he runs away after blowing up Marge.
7. At Hagrid’s.
8. The Time Turner.
9. An old boot used to get to the Quidditch World Cup, and the Triwizard Cup that transport Harry and Cedric to the graveyard.
10. Bone of the father (Tom Riddle, Sr.), flesh of the servant (Wormtail), blood of the enemy (Harry).
The Potter is strong in these two…
1) umbrella
2) Ron makes fun of Hermione for being a know-it-all, and she goes crying to the girls’ bathroom. But then Quirrell lets in a mountain troll, and Harry and Ron realize that she’s out there in the castle on her own and doesn’t know it, so they go looking for it. Then Harry and Ron defeat the troll and save Hermione. There are some things you can’t share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them
3) NEVILLE! Oh, my dear sweet Neville! At the end-of-year feast, who is awarded the points that push Gryffindor into the lead for the coveted House Cup award?
4) Some kind of pudding thingie.
5) Stab the diary with a basilisk fang
6) Magic flying car
7) Outside the Whomping Willow? I don’t even remember.
8) Time turner
9) A mangy old shoe and the Triwizard Cup
10) Blood from the father, unwillingly taken. (A bone from Tom Riddle, Sr.’s crypt.) Flesh from the servant, willingly given. (Wormtail’s hand.) Blood from the enemy forcibly taken. (Harry’s blood when he’s restrained in the cemetary.)
I meant, Ron makes fun of Hermione for being a know-it-all in class about the spell. “Wingardium leviOsa, not wingardium leviosAAAAA.” Ha. But I forgot he uses it to knock out the troll, too.
Yours was the answer I was looking for. She was telling Ron how to do the spell, so he made fun of her. She got so upset that she hid in the bathroom, where the troll found her later in the night and said spell was used to knock him out with his own club and they bonded.
Harry Potter nerd IN THE HOUSE.
1. Hides it in a pink umbrella.
2. Ron used it (after being lectured on it by Hermione, no less) to knock out a mountain troll who was attacking him, Hermione, and Harry in a bathroom, and Hermione took the rap for them all being there when they got in trouble, and there are some experiences you simply can’t share without become friends (to paraphrase.) Knocking out a mountain troll is one of them.
3. Neville! For having the courage to stand up to his friends.
4. Nothing. Aunt Marge is in book three. But he DOES levitate and drop on the floor the impressive violet pudding that is the centerpiece of Aunt Petunia’s dinner for the Masons, whom Uncle Vernon is trying to sell drills to.
5. He drives a basilisk fang through the diary (and horcrux) that held the memory.
6. He leaves with his broom and his trunk, and ends up accidentally calling the night bus when he falls and reaches his wand hand out to try and catch himself.
7. In a milk jug in Hagrid’s hut
8. A time turner
9. And old boot and the tri-wizard cup
10. Bone of the father, unknowingly given (taken? I think it’s given…), flesh of the servant, willingly given, and blood of the enemy, forcibly taken.
I CAN DO THIS.
1. Pink Umbrella! Not in a cocktail.
2. Ron used it to knock out a troll and save Hermione in a bathroom!
3. Book 1, right? Neville MOTHA$&#*$(# LONGBOTTOM. For demonstrating the courage to stand up to his friends.
4. Trick question. Dobby dumps nothing on Aunt Marge (whose first appearance is in Book 3); he dumps a violet pudding on Mrs. Mason. Who is also deathly afraid of birds.
5. Stabs Riddle’s diary with a Basilisk FANG.
6. Well, he just leaves. He runs away from “home.” …After blowing up Aunt Marge. And then he sticks out his wand arm on accident and hails the Knight Bus. Which takes him to the Leaky Cauldron. I could go on.
7. In the spare cream jar in Hagrid’s hut!
8. A Time-Turner. Not the best name, really. It’s a necklace with a long chain and an hourglass attached to it.
9. There are more than two, but we see the Weasleys, Harry, Hermione, and the Diggory men travel to the world cup with an old boot; and of course, the Goblet itself is a portkey. Whoops.
10. Flesh of the servant (Wormtail’s hand), willingly given. Bone of the father (Tom Riddle Sr.), unknowingly given. Blood of the enemy (that’s Harry), forcibly taken. Shudder.
I feel like this is the only thing I have succeeded at all week.
Adddendum: I feel I need to note also, for #4, that this is the film version. In the book version, he dumps the violet pudding all over the kitchen, and then Mrs. Mason is merely terrified by the owl that delivers one of the letters to Harry immediately following.
