Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred, Day 16: Thinking About Going Jeans Shopping?

No, I don’t think I’m going jeans shopping just yet. BUT, I did get a compliment from someone last week that I was toning up (it sounds weird, but it was in context and complimentary, I swear).

I took the weekend off from the Shred, and headed to my home town for some time at the beach and my 20th high school reunion (more on that later in the week). We headed to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, and parked in one of the many parking lots that dot the Lake Michigan shoreline. I love this particular spot, but I’d forgotten how long of a hike (over a sand dune) it is to get to the beach. I forgot how long it was, and I forgot that I’d be herding children and carrying a few beach bags with me as we trekked through the sand. You know what? I wasn’t even the least bit winded when we got to the beach.

I love finding out than I’m stronger than I think I am.

Have you had any recent “ah-ha” moments physically? How’s your fitness commitment going? What kind of active things did you do this weekend?

All these “shred” posts got me to finally try it today. I am so tired.

I have been doing a combination of ballet and pilates for the last two weeks but I skipped out on the weekend, and I can always tell when I’m exercising how pronounced my curves become. I have a natural hourglass shape that’s become less noticeable the last few years, but when I exercise it’s impossible to ignore, even in a regular T-shirt. I’m getting back to where I was when I was a senior in college ever so slowly.

I don’t track anything on the scale. I’m hoping that with this new workout for a month I might be able to trim a little from everywhere on my body, but mostly I just want to be strong. One of my fitness idols has always been Serena Williams who always looks so powerful, even when she’s standing around. I know I’ll never be as ripped as she is, but I’d like to try and get closer to her figure.

Yesterday, I got home from church and the power had temporarily gone out in my apartment building. Which meant no elevator. I live on the 8th floor, and there was definitely a time when I would’ve just sat in the lobby waiting for the power to come back on. But yesterday, I headed straight for the stairwell (in wedges), and climbed to the 8th floor. Don’t get me wrong; I was winded, and I paused to grumble around floor 6. But I thought about how at my heaviest 5 years ago (about 65lbs. heavier), I would get winded walking up a single flight of stairs. It really made me smile to note the difference.
