That’s right, y’all! Inspired by the recent excitement concerning the Hobbit movie, I decided to re-read the book over the holiday weekend. I was further inspired to implore you all to read it again (or for the first time!) so we can get our nerd on next week and talk about it.
The book is pretty short, and unlike the Lord of the Rings trilogy, was generally intended to be a children’s book, so it’s a quick read. I read it in two sittings last weekend, and I intend to go over it again this weekend to help prepare some questions. So I think six days is plenty of time for everyone to get through it.
The discussion will be next Wednesday, July 13, and I’ll probably post at least one reminder before then. I don’t have any questions to give you ahead of time, but here are a few things to think about while you’re reading:
“¢ How this book will be translated into film.
“¢ The female characters in the book. (What’s that? There aren’t any? Hm.)
“¢ How The Hobbit fits in with the Lord of the Rings trilogy (and, if you’re hardcore, The Silmarillion).
“¢ If this is not your first time reading: anything you’re noticing this time around you didn’t notice before.
So, that’s it! If you have any thoughts or topics you’d like to make sure get discussed next week, drop them in the comments or send me a PM. Otherwise, get reading, and I’ll see you nerds next week.
