Here we are again with another installment of 5 Books, where our writers, readers and friends tell us the books they’d give to the important people in their lives. Today’s special guest is the wonderful Golda. Find her recommendations after the break.
1. Which book would you give to a potential significant other?
I find this one kind of tough, but perhaps, The Ethical Slut, by Dossie Easton and Catherine A. Liszt? I’m not really into polyamory myself at the moment, but I think it’s not a bad guide for honesty in relationships.
2. Which book would you give to a high school senior?
FAT!So?: Because You Don’t Have To Apologize For Your Size, by my friend Marilyn Wann. It’s a wonderful, light book on body diversity and positive body image and definitely a good thing for someone potentially starting college.
3. Which book would you give to your political representatives?
The Diet Myth, by Paul Campos. Perhaps they’d rethink their positions on the “obesity epidemic” as a result? Maybe?
4. Which book would you give to a former teacher?
My mom once ran into my high school writing teacher who told her that he always thought I’d become a writer or a rabbi, and he was disappointed when my mom told him that I was a lawyer (this was a few years back). So I’d like to give him a copy of my book, Stop Dieting Now, just to blow his mind.
5. Which book would you give to your best friend?
Human Croquet, by Kate Atkinson. I just love everything that woman writes. She’s an incredible novelist.
