I don’t know about you, but I love a good theme song. A really good theme song can elicit an almost Pavlovian response in me. I’ve never started to actually drool, but I do get a little thrill when the music starts and I know my show is about to start.
For tonight’s trivia challenge, I will give you the opening lyrics from some classic TV theme songs, and you have to give me the shows. If the show’s title is in the opening lines, I’ll leave that part blank, as in number one:
- “_____ _____ is the place to be / Farm livin’ is the life for me”
- “Nobody told you live was gonna be this way / Your job’s a joke, you’re broke, your love life’s D.O.A.”
- “Come and knock on our door / We’ve been waiting for you”
- “I know, you know, that you’re not telling the truth / I know, you know, we just don’t have any proof”
- “Here’s the story, of a lovely lady / Who was bringing up three very lovely girls”
- “The whole universe was in a hot dense state / then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started. Wait.”
- “Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? _________ _________! Absorbent and yellow and porous is he! _________ ___________!”
- “It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights / Its time to get things started on the ______ ____ tonight”
- “Baby, if you ever wondered / Wondered whatever became of me / I’m living on the air in Cincinnati”
- “My independence went away / I didn’t listen when it said “rely on yourself, trusting someone else is a path for the silent ghost'”
- “Making your way in the world today takes everything you’ve got / Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.”
- “Just’a good ol’ boys / Never meanin’ no harm”
- “They’re creepy and they’re kooky / Mysterious and spooky.”
- Bonus – “_ ____ ____ and she loves me / We’re as happy as two can be / Sometimes we quarrel but then, / How we love making up again.”
So what are your favorite theme songs? Or am I alone in my mini-obsession?

I also love tv theme songs! That and jingles. I probably watched too much television in my youth. Anyway:
1) Greeeeeeen Acres
2) Friends
3) Three’s Company
4) Psych
5) Brady Bunch (Here’s a fun fact, my cousin was the music supervisor on that show. She manages the rights to the BB songs.)
6) The Big Bang Theory
7) Spongebob Squarepants!
8) Muppet Show
9) WKRP in Cincinnati
10) I honest have no idea. This one is probably way before my time and outside the realm of TV Land.
11) Cheers
12) The Dukes of Hazzard
13) The Addams Family
* I Love Lucy
The only ones I didn’t get were 10 and 12. I’ve never seen either show. The lesson I have learned today is that I watch too much damn TV

I’m unsure on 6+10.
Selena! For shame, number six is Big Bang Theory. Well, not real shame, but I’m just gloating because I know it since it’s one of the only sitcoms I ever watch. And of course Friends reruns. Because those will be eternally funny.
Aha! I’ve never seen it, even though so many people tell me it’s great. I really need to check it out.
Dang, I was sure I’d have more of these than anybody else! I should have known that our writer base is tv-addicted.
TBBT is a great show. But at the very least if you like tv theme songs you should watch this clip of the intro, because it is perfect.
For most episodes, they cut the song off with a short version after, “Math, science, history, unraveled in the mystery, it all started with the Big Bang.”
Got all of them except 4 and 10.
Oh, GTFO! I just looked it up. But it says it’s used for a radio show, not TV…?
