Persephoneers, how many of you out there are philanthropists in some way? Do you have a favorite charity, non-profit, or organization you volunteer with or donate to? Let us know in the comments, and provide links if you can, so we can see what sorts of things you guys are helping to make happen.
Most of my donation budget usually goes to Donors Choose, which allows teachers to create projects to benefit their students, and then lets donors pick which projects to fund. I also like to donate food and toys to my local animal shelter, which makes a “wish list” on the major pet retailers’ websites and allows you to purchase and ship directly to the shelter.
How about you?

I’m a huge fan of Donors Choose! Â I also give to the ASPCA, the Shriners Children’s Hospitals, and a local soup kitchen.
I donate to my local public library with volunteer time, money, and used books in good repair for their Friends of the Library annual book sale. We also contribute regularly to RAINN and Planned Parenthood.
I like the Alberta Cross Cancer Institute. Instead of giving my money to Pink ribbon stuff, I’d rather see my money help out other types of cancer that get forgotten in all the pink washing.
I like to give to Water for People, Doctors without Borders, Partners in Health, and the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless. I like to volunteer at local medical clinics and the Inspiration Corporation. Health and homelessness are my pet issues, i guess.
