Persephone Fall Bracket: Final Details

We’re almost ready to start picking the top 16 ladies in each category, but there are a few questions that have popped up in the comments. To keep it democratic, there’s a poll after the cut so we can decide as a group.

We’ll be back in this same timeslot tomorrow with the first elimination poll, Supporting Character in a Drama.

Tarty Old Broads win everything forever.

I voted for the Firefly ladies as leading ladies because it was really an ensemble cast, so everyone is a lead.

I haven’t been able to follow along with the nominations, Is Bones in there?  I forgot to nominate her at the beginning.

When we do this again next year (there’s gonna be a next year, right?) I’d suggest splitting the categories up differently;

Baddass Lady – Action Variety
Baddass Lady – Funny Variety
Baddass Lady – Dramatic Variety
Baddass Lady – Villainous Variety

That way you can skip the genre of the show and focus on the character themselves — Xena, Buffy, River would be action variety; Clair Huxtable, The Goddamn Golden Girls, and Lisa Simpson would be funny; Catwoman, Alexis Carrington are clear villains; Lara Roslin and Scully are obvious dramatic ladies.

Your definitions could vary, of course. Personally, I’d like to see a ‘Tarty Old Broads’ variety, but obviously that would be an extremely narrow category.

I didn’t spy on your notes, but I have been thinking about it since you announced it! I sorta wrestled with who I wanted to nominate because ‘badass’ to me means a physical action hero, and then I was internally debating if the list should include character we like who aren’t aspirational, or just characters who were groundbreaking or role models. I mean, I love Catwoman and all, but she’s not exactly a forward thinking characterization of female empowerment (in the show).

I have lots of thoughts! Important mind grapes!
