Never Mind the Neilsens: Round One, Day One

We’re finally ready to get down to the nitty gritty, and it’s time to make the hard choices.  Much like Middlemarch Madness, we’re already building momentum– each elimination vote had more participants than the day before. Help me promote it by telling your friends (or your enemies, if they like the same stuff you do.) Don’t be afraid to aggressively campaign for your favorites in the comments, as well.

We’ll be running votes at this time all week long, and all the polls will be open until Friday morning. You’ll need to vote quickly in Thursday’s polls, they’ll only be open for about 16-20 hours.  I’ll announce all the results so far on Friday in this time slot. Happy voting!

I swear I’m not being critical, just…slightly confused and intrigued.  You might be the first person I’ve ever heard say they watched Firefly but didn’t like it (aside from that lady who wrote the articles about how Joss Whedon is actually a woman-beating rapist, but she’s SO over the top that I’m not really counting her.)

I have also firmly convinced myself that even if I wasn’t a big Firefly fan, just the words “genius female spaceship mechanic” and “taciturn ass-kicking first mate of a spaceship” might get my votes anyways.  But then, I’ve never watched Dr. Who, so I’m coming from a place of partial ignorance about Zoe’s match-up, at least.

Probably the actual first episode.  Just checking!  It’s widely agreed that one of the many obstacles the show faced when it was originally aired was that Fox decided to air the second episode, instead of the two-part first episode with all the character intros, first.  Which, naturally, confused viewers watching the first episode and was a factor in a lot of people not continuing to watch when the show was aired.
