Need a New Fruity Drink?

Years ago, I as I sat in a pool hall with friends, enjoying the game and the company, I noticed everyone’s hand held an adult beverage. I, not being a big drinker, while also being a major light weight and lover of foo-fie drinks, wanted something as well.

As luck would have it, one of my dear friends who joined our rousing game of pool moonlighted as a bartender at one time in his past. So I turned to him and begged him to enlighten me on what should I get. He gave me a great suggestion that the bartender did not know how to make. So being my amazing friend he went up to the bartender to ensure I got what I needed. He then wrote out the recipe so that I would always be able to order my drink.

So in honor of any opportunity to gather a bunch of Persephone Bad Asses in one spot, order one for me.

There are many French Martini recipes, but this one is from Amazing Friend:

The French Martini:

2 oz Absolut Vodka

2 oz Chambord Liqueur

3 oz Pineapple juice

Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake it like a …( Like what? He didn’t say, but I like to think “milk shake in a frying pan.”) Shake until frothy (20- 30 vigorous shakes). Decant from shaker into a martini class. Serve with NO ICE in the drink.

Ooh, I like the sound of that! I can’t ever seem to make a good, fruity drink that isn’t sangria.  I usually go to Yard House if I’m in the mood for fruity and let them make it for me. The drinks are pricey, but I have yet to meet one I didn’t like.

First post on Persephone! My mom has been making French Martinis for years, and basically considers it “her drink”. They are so delicious, and pack a huge punch. Pro-tip (from my mother): Chambord is bloody expensive. Instead of splurging on that (which is of course nice every now and then), buy Marie Brizard Raspberry liqueur and throw 2 vanilla beans in the bottle. It’s much cheaper and tastes basically the same.

I don’t drink alcohol, but I appreciate well-made mocktails. I once had a lemon balm/mint virgin mojito with orange and pomegranate juice that was fantastic. Normally I just get a mojito with orange juice, which is still citrus and fruity without being as complicated.
