Tuesday Trivia

Fun Time Open Thread: Know Your Cop Shows

It’s Tuesday night, and in our house, that means two things: NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles. I love me some crime dramas, even when they give me nightmares. In fact, when I am working, I usually have Netflix streaming in the background and my genre of choice is old crime shows. They are interesting enough to keep me entertained, but easy enough to follow that they don’t require all my attention.

Tonight’s quiz is in two parts. In part one, I’ll be asking be asking for actors who played title roles, and in part two, I will give you characters and you need to identify the show.

Who plays:

  1. Cagney and Lacey?
  2. Magnum P.I.?
  3. Matlock?
  4. Quincy?
  5. Banacek?
  6. McMillan and Wife?
  7. Father Dowling?
  8. Castle?

And now, which show features:

  1. Joe Friday and Bill Gannon?
  2. Leroy Jethro Gibbs and Tim McGee?
  3. Spencer Reid and Penelope Garcia?
  4. Mike Logan and Lennie Briscoe?
  5. Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler?
  6. Joyce Davenport and Phil Esterhaus?
  7. Vic Mackey and Danni Sofer?
  8. Shawn Spencer and Burton Guster?

If you do not wish to play trivia, you have the right to remain silent. You may choose instead to comment about other things.

I’m mega-stoked. In about 14 hours, I will be on my way to the airport to catch a long series of flights to Peru, where my boyfriend, our friend and I will be road-trippin’ over two weeks from Lima to Cusco and Machu Picchu, around to Titicaca and back to the coast. Una muy buena oportunidad para practicar mi español, diría. I also happened to have gotten a promotion and slight raise at work yesterday before I left to begun my vacation, so April is seeming to be a kickass month so far.

I LOVE COP SHOWS!  Who cares if they’re all the same?

Since I’ve had the babby, I’ve been DVRing Law & Order  and watching it during those long nursing sessions.  TNT’s been playing some from the early early early days (1990)– It’s crazy to see the original cast!  Also, I had no idea that Captain Cragen was originally on Law & Order before going to SVU.

(and psych is the best show ever, fyi)

M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-EEEEEEEEE! I’ve caught Juniper Junior’s bug and as a result, am spending far too much time watching children’s TV. I have, however, discovered The Wizards of Waverly Place. It makes a change from Jake and The Neverland Pirates/Curious George/Handy Manny/Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

Princess Diaries is the best film ever. Except, why is it that in all of these Disney films, the “hot popular suitor” that the protagonist rejects is always seriously meh looking? Is this just cross-atlantic sexual values (er, lol) being mixed up?

I swear, the “not popular guy” is way closer to what everyone swooned over at my school =x

Totally agree! But you have to put yourself in the mind-set of a 12 to 15 year old giiiirl of course. I also had my period of love-for-plain-white-bread.
Gilmore Girls’ Jess and Buffy were the first to show me that love interests can be rough around the edges (to use an understatement).

Dude, I can’t even tell you the number of “discussions” my friends and I have had about which of Rory’s boyfriends is hottest. I believe the final vote is: Jess is hottest, Logan is best for Rory, and Dean is creepy and whiny and needs to go away. (Funny part is that’s also how we feel about his character in Supernatural).

Also <3 Spike.

*hugs* I’ll watch it with you if I ever get the chance. And I’m glad Jess cleaned up his act, but I think Logan made Rory push out of her boundaries and grow up. (And this I’m saying even though Jess is my all-time favorite of the boys). She was just a bit too naive and relied to heavily on other people’s opinions before he entered the picture, and while yes she completely derailed before it got better, I think she needed it. That being said, I’m not sure where I stand on her not marrying him, but I think she was a fool to turn down the Providence job.

It’s probably linked to the Disney tradition of being terrified of presenting any sort of sexual attractiveness, especially when it comes to men. It goes back all the way to the yawn-inducing blob of blandness that was the prince in Snow White.

I only know one of the first and four of the second. I feel like I’m slacking on my crime shows. I used to watch them all the time.

  1. Castle? Nathan Fillion
  1. Leroy Jethro Gibbs and Tim McGee? NCIS
  2. Spencer Reid and Penelope Garcia? Criminal Minds
  3. Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler? Law and Order SVU
  4. Shawn Spencer and Burton Guster? Psych

In my cross-stitch sampler brainstorming session with Mr. B, we decided that almost every single line from “Last Night Gus” would make an awesome sampler. The two that I know for sure I am charting are “Dude, this guy has taffy!” and “I don’t want to be Paul Walker. Not even for one day,” (from ‘Shawn Takes a Shot in the Dark’) because they both make me laugh every time I hear them.

I have watched so much NCIS that it really is kind of ridiculous. I hate to say it, but I got bored partway through last season, and haven’t kept up with it, but I can still watch so much of that show in one sitting. I love the characters and their interactions, and the cases are always interesting.

I didn’t like NCIS at first, but Mr. Silverwane ADORES it, so I ended up watching a bunch of it. And now, while I probably wouldn’t go “I really want to watch some NCIS,” I can really get into a few episodes.

I think part of my issue is, I didn’t like the Kate-era very much. Ziva all the way!
