New Spring Shows I’m Excited About

I love when new shows premiere, and there are a few that I’m looking forward to checking out (as well as one I think I can do without).

The first is ABC’s Scandal, which premiered last week. Created by Shonda Rhimes of Grey’s Anatomy fame and starring Kerry Washington, Scandal is about Olivia Pope (Washington), the owner of a crisis management firm who does her best to keep her client’s secrets out of the press. I like the idea, and I like the strong female lead; the only thing is that while I hope the story lines are as juicy as the title of the show suggests, I don’t want them to be too unrealistic, like Grey’s. I haven’t had a chance to watch the show yet, but it’s definitely on my list.

I’m also excited about Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 on ABC, and not just because Dawson, I mean James Van Der Beek, plays a fictionalized version of himself. Anyone who has ever had a roommate has horror stories, which makes this comedy relatable – a small-town girl comes to New York City and finds herself rooming with a party-loving con artist. The two wind up getting along, but based on their polar opposite personalities, hilarity and shenanigans are sure to ensue.

One show that I’m not super intrigued by is NBC’s Best Friends Forever, in which two best friends, Jessica and Lennon, live together after Jessica and her husband get a divorce. Oh, and they also live with Lennon’s boyfriend, who is trying to adjust to this new living situation. The thought of moving in with any of my friends and their husbands makes homelessness seem appealing, so I am just not into this premise.

What do you think of these shows? Have you seen them yet? Are there any other new programs you’re looking forward to watching this spring?

Scandal is SO good. Already.  One episode and I am SO loving it.  Of course, I could watch Columbus Short walk down the street with no sound for an hour.  And I have kind of a girl-crush on Kerry Washington… So…I was born to love it.  It’s the only Shonda show I watch (I used to watch Grey’s and Private Practice but they got too…something…and I couldn’t do it anymore.)

I can’t wait to see more tonight! [Esp. since my Secret Circle isn’t on tonight]

I’m really excited for Scandal! I hope I like it. I was a hardcore Grey’s fan for a long time, but it got tiring after a while. Regardless, Shonda is so wonderful, and I’m always stoked whenever women (especially women of color!) are at the helm. I’m also a sucker for Van Der Beek, so I’ll probably watch Don’t Trust the B—- and enjoy it about as much as I enjoyed the Ke$ha video with James Van der Beek…which was a lot.

I wasn’t a huge fan of BFF. It felt way too formulaic for me- overbearing best friend always up in her friend’s business whether she’s welcome there or not, dopey boorish male love interest. Meh.

Haha! It was funny because when I was writing about Scandal it reminded me that I want to get into Revenge (I watched the first episode on a flight to NYC last fall and liked it, but decided I’d just wait and watch the season all at once when it was over).

Do it, do it! If our shared fondness for reality TV is any indication, you’ll love it! Definitely the kind of show to watch from the beginning, though – and good to marathon, since all the manipulating and deceit can make it a little hard to follow and remember everything when there’s a long time in between episodes.
