Lunchtime Poll: Focus Testing

Happy hump day, Persephoneers! I hope everyone is having a great, adventure-filled week. Or is at least muddling through.

For today’s LTP, I’m going to multi-task. I’ve been spending all the hours getting the new skin up and running, and I’d like to know if you all like it.

The site looks lovely!

One thing I miss is the more pronounced spacial differences between an original comment and its replies.  There have been several times that I’m scrolling up and down trying to figure it all out…but I’ll get use to it. Shrinking the page down helped a bit. :-)

It’s looking great! A few small (I think?) things

– the comment boxes aren’t wide enough for the standard Youtube embedding size, the right-hand edge of the vids disappear.

– the header pics are pretty, but on a small screen they and the title are all you see when you click through – no article text. It’s mildly annoying to have to scroll down + might lose casual readers. (I’m seeing the circle yoke in the middle of them as well).  ETA: it’s the same on the homepage.

– the comment text colour has been switching between black and grey: it’s much more readable in black for me, and I imagine for readers with visual impairment.

I can fix the comment box, I think.  And I keep changing the comment text to black, and it keeps changing back to gray. I am unsure how this is happening, but it took three tries to make the meta data text the right color, so I’ll give it another shot.

The header pictures are smaller than most other sites that use a magazine layout.  I think(?) the circle in the middle is part of a script that makes the images fade when you hover.  As of yet, I have not found where or what is making that happen, though, so we’re going to have to get used to them for now.

There’s no room in the header for a tagline, so I’m doing the next best thing by putting it in the Intro box. The intro box is not disable-able as best I can tell. I’ll try to change the tagline frequently to keep it interesting.

My favorite improvement so far is the way that the newest post heads the page, and the rest are in a two column form. I feel like I can see more of the articles, and therefore miss out less if I don’t make it on for a few hours… still keepin’ it very clean though.

My least favorite glitch thing is the way that, in the head photos, there’s a tiny little circle thing, and only because it reminds me of Apple’s ‘loading’ circle thing. (As you can see, I’m having to be SUPER nit picky to even find something wrong. BECAUSE YOU KICKED THIS SERVER MOVES ASSSSSS<3)

I actually don’t like it, at least not with some sort of corresponding list of articles posted chronologically. But, as a thought, it might be possible to run two different views or something like that? Like, one being more like the older way and one being the newer?
