Good Wednesday morning/afternoon or whatever it is where you are. We’ve got a great day of content ahead. I’m so excited for you all to read it.
For today’s LTP, I’d like to hear all about the last time you won something, even if it was just a game of solitaire.

Won a rousing round of Trivial Pursuit a few nights ago, but there should probably be an asterisk next to the win since I was decidedly less drunk than my competitors.
I won first place in the weekly challenge for angry birds on facebook!
If we wanna talk about big, real winnings then I am proud to announce that in April I won $500 on the radio! I was so excited. I called in 5 times a day, over and over and over, for almost two weeks and then I finally got through. It was a song by Pink that led me to my victory :)
Hey guise – totally off-topic question over here!
Say that a company contacted you regarding a job they want you to apply for. Say you would do anything short of selling your firstborn to work for this company. Say you had a great conversation with the person who contacted you and things were looking really positive. Say they told you they would send you the job description as soon as it was finalized and that’s been exactly one week ago.
Is it appropriate to, at this juncture, not contact said company and wait for them to move, or should one send them a follow-up note? If a follow-up note is appropriate, what should it contain?
I won a come back war with Mr. Nonsense last night. Â This is a big for me. He is much wittier and quicker than I am with the come backs. :D
Again, welcome to all the folks coming in from Jezebel! It’s great seeing all these new faces, along with some faces I remember from my Jez-times. :)
As for the last thing I won, I’ve been slowly drawn into the fold (again) of my boyfriend’s lifelong trading card game hobby. Over this last year, he’s been getting into Magic: The Gathering. For a while I was staunchly opposed getting involved, because I am a terrible loser. Years of playing competitive chess as a kid, and dealing with my father who didn’t take my losing well, have made it difficult to adjust.
Buuut then I started playing with him again. I made a deck and have been testing it against myself and it’s been doing pretty well. So I guess I’ve been winning in that?
The last thing I won was a book from Smart Bitches, Trashy Books, which I loved and need to go buy more books from that author as well. Its called Unraveled and is a brilliant historical romance, I highly recommend it. I don’t read a lot of romance, my normal fall back read is fantasy but I tried this book and adored it; great characters, wonderful setting, interesting plot and steamy sex.
Nice! Love Smart Bitches, Trashy Books. There are at least a couple of romance authors around these parts ;)
Me too. I’m a librarian and they’re one of the best sites for book news and just general book glee. The author of Unraveled is Courtney Milan and its part of a series. I should have added.
…. I can’t remember. Unless ignoring two desperate dumbasses trying to walk along and chat me up till they gave up counts. That was yesterday.
I’m 35 now and gems like these are usually a fair bit younger than that, so lately I get tempted to ask: “How old are you? Is your eyesight okay?” But then again, whatever, they’re not worth the effort of engaging.
I won a game of Cards Against Humanity last week against my boyfriend and some of his frat brothers- dick jokes FTW!
I won $30 playing the lottery, not that long ago…the $50 million would have been even nicer, though!
Ooh! I won $15 on a scratch-off ticket.
I play Minesweeper like some ridiculous addiction. So I won one of those this morning while drinking my tea.
Best thing I ever won: meat raffle at a local pickle festival. Not. Even. Kidding.
I think the fact that you attended a pickle festival is a win in itself.
I’ve also won a couple of books from Goodreads and am reading one right now, Emily Giffin’s “Where We Belong.” It’s okay…definitely glad to have gotten it for free because it’s kinda hokey and I would be mad if I spent money on it.
I’ve won a couple of books recently too, one from Goodreads and one from a women’s empowerment website. The one that I received from Goodreads is titled “The Conflict: How Modern Motherhood Undermines the Status of Women”. The other one was “Perfect Chaos: A Daughter’s Journey to Survive Bipolar, a Mother’s Struggle to Save Her”. Hopefully I’ll get around to reading them both this summer.
The last thing I won was a book from Goodreads. I’ve had it for over a month now and I haven’t finished it. I’m starting to feel a bit guilty about that. It’s pretty good, just dense. Oh and the main character has anxiety issues that weirdly resonate with my own, so the night I sat down to read it while stressed about work, I didn’t sleep. Yay. But, no really, the book is good, it’s just taking me an ass long time to read.
I won a couple books off Goodreads recently too. One just looks kinda boring so I haven’t started on it yet, and the other is the second book in a series. I swear I saw the first book at the weird discount store in town a few weeks ago, but they don’t have it anymore so I have to decide whether to shell out $6 for a book I’m not sure if I really want. I haven’t checked the library for it yet; hopefully they have it.
My book was the second in a series too. I was able to snag the e-reader version of book one with a coupon, so I read it. Only to realize that it is book two in a series of books that only share a setting. There has been exactly one character that has shown up between both books, and he only pops up in the prologue of the second one. (My book is Exogene by T. C. McCarthy in case that is your book too)
Won a round of cribbage on my birthday a couple weeks ago! This is especially fun for me because my regular cribbage buddy and I are so well-matched it’s usually a bitter fight to the end.
Once when I was in college I won third-place in a raffle. My prize was a copy of Plan 9 From Outer Space. Probably the best prize ever.
Won a game of Sequnce (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sequence_%28game%29) against my partner recently. He won’t play Scrabble with me anymore. This is a much more evenly-balanced game.
The weirdest thing I ever won was part of a giant pumpkin. My co-op had one of those huge pumpkins (800 some pounds) and had a “guess the weight contest”. I didn’t win that, but I did win the “draw the pumpkin on the back of your entry slip” for my age group. I guess most 20-somethings couldn’t be bothered to draw the pumpkin. So I won a slice of it, it probably weighed 15 pounds. I cooked it up and tried to bake delicious things with it — blech. Not horrible, but in no way as good as canned pumpkin.
