Here in the northeastern U.S., autumn is suddenly upon us. How do I know? Because every single food known to humankind is now available in “pumpkin spice” flavor.
Now, I’m probably going to get kicked out of New England for saying so, but I hate pumpkin-flavored stuff. Mostly because it’s the “spice” part of “pumpkin spice” that gives stuff its taste (as I find pumpkin itself to taste something like a bland zucchini). I do, however, love all things apple, especially when my beloved Honeycrisps start showing up in the grocery store.
How about you? What’s your favorite taste of fall?

OH I love pumpkin! The candles and the food. I have been making pumpkin scones, pumpkin pie, pumpkin pancakes, and even pumpkin muffins. Not all in one day but I have been doing it.
Sweet potatoes, pomegranate, pumpkin spice and apples (all kind except Red Delicious).
I love Macintosh (sp?) apples, which are usually only around in the fall. Their taste and smell are the essence of autumn in my mind. And cider. Ciders of all varieties are welcome in our house.
Pies. And stampotten which I might be able to translate as ..mash? Mashed potatoes + veggies + meat. Also caramel, for some reason.
I know what stampot is! :-) My Dad dreaded eating it when he was growing up, but I quite like it (probably because it was a treat that I occasionally had at my Oma’s).
Pumpkin flavored everything. Apple everything! PECAN PIE ALL OVER THE PLACE! I freaking love fall.
I do love Starbucks salted caramel mocha as well. I know salted caramel is not exclusively a fall thing, but it’s definitely a little more prevalent.
Also, the fall means that sponge candy comes back in full force. It is a pretty popular type of candy around these parts, a spun sugar center dipped in chocolate. In the summer it’s too humid for the sponge part to set right, so it’s much harder to find and the stuff you do come across is not as good.
I do love the pumpkin stuff but within reason. Give me pumpkin bars and pumpkin muffins, but keep the pumpkin lattes and pies. The apples, though, that’s what I’m all about. From now til winter my lunches will be mostly apples in all their wonderful variety. :)
I like Pumpkin ice cream and cheesecake and drip coffee, but can’t stand the lattes. Far far too sweet.
I always ask for half sweet, no whip … MUCH better in my opinion. :)
I love pumpkin spice … it makes my mouth and tummy happy.
I am the reason it is everywhere. Sorry.
I like pecan pie oh so very much! It’s especially good when baked with a dash of dark rum. :) Other than that, I don’t have a specific flavor that is fall-related that I love, but I do like that with cooler weather, I can make soups and stews without feeling overheated in my kitchen. Give me soups, stews, and chowders until the cows come home!
Ooh, pecan pie! Ironically I never ate it growing up in Texas because my grandmother made terrible pecan pie. Now that I live in New York I’m kicking myself for missing out for so many years. Pecans grew in my backyard! I should have loved the pie then!
I love pumpkin, this is my favorite time of year to eat things. Pumpkin bread, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin pie, I will eat my share and your share of pumpkin flavored crap. I don’t eat the weird stuff (pumpkin and chocolate? Blasphemy.)
I’m also pretty crazy about pecan pie, even though it’s essentially sugar in a crust.
So, my pumpkin pie with the crust moisture-proofed w/cinnamon dark chocolate is out then, eh? That has all my fall favorites, except apple – pumpkin, spice, cinnamon. MMM.
That may convince me to broaden my pumpkin horizons…
I am ALL about the spice, but keep thinking I should try to like pumpkin & should eat more of it since it’s healthy and so on. I do like the seeds at least. I have been trying to find the only-at-Target Candy Corn Oreos to no avail, even though they will probably be horrible. And while I really don’t care much for apples, the new Pepperidge Farm Caramel Apple cookies are reaaalllly good. Have the Pumpkin Cheesecake ones to try next as well!
I really want to try the candy corn oreos too!
