Lunchtime Poll: Hangover Cures

So, yesterday was quite the party, wasn’t it? Anyone stay up way past their bed time and make questionable decisions? As a Certified Old, I was in bed and snuggled with the cats at a reasonable(ish) hour.¬†

I’d be lying if I said that I’ve never woken up feeling like I was hit by a freight train due to a bit of over-indulgence. My worst hangover ever was the result of a night that ended with myself and a friend sitting in one of her friend’s backyard, wearing sombreros, passing back and forth a bottle of Southern Comfort. I was sick for two days and to this day, the smell of SoCo makes me¬†nauseous.

So,today I want to know what are your go-to hangover remedies? Mine is a bunch of ibuprofen washed down with some pickle juice. The combination of garlic, vinegar, and salt in the pickle brine has magical properties. Oh, and a healthy dose of Law & Order re-runs.

I try to avoid the hangover all together by taking Advil and drinking a glass of water before going to sleep but if I’m too drunk to remember to do that, I usually take the ‘sleep it off’ route. My hangovers don’t typically get bad. Except for the one time that I drank 3/4 of a bottle of Captain Morgan in like 4 hours. I was hungover for 3 days. THREE DAYS. Suffice to say, I can’t drink CM any more.

If it’s a good hangover, it can be ameliorated with a few paracetamol, tea, toast, and TV.

If it’s a bad one, divine intervention will not help and I just have to lie perfectly still on my left side for about 12 hours until I can bear to have a physical body again.

Never had a hangover, but probably the closest I’ve gotten was feeling a bit buzzed off Captain Morgan. I couldn’t drink rum for awhile because of it. I’ve had what I call migraine hangovers, and I usually chug water and sip mint tea in a dark room for awhile until I feel human again.

Bloody Mary with tequila instead of vodka. Catch another buzz. Or just throw up a lot and then crawl back to bed to sleep it off. Suffice it to say, I rarely drink enough to get a hangover. I’m gonna try the pickle juice + ibu thing next time I do, though.

My preferred methods of prevention: just sleep a little and wake up still buzzed, or alternate every other drink with water or G2 between my boozy drinks.
