Happy Monday, Persephoneers! For those of us in the U.S., do you get to enjoy a long weekend in just two more days? Or does Thanksgiving signal the start of job intensity that won’t let up until after January 1st? This week I am thankful that my office is closed for the entire week, and that one of my kiddos is home from school for the week. A few days to catch up on life before leaving to visit family will be much appreciated.
At my parents’ house, Thanksgiving is a specific smell. It’s not the same anywhere else – it’s a combination of my mom baking pies and my dad preparing the stuffing that simply can’t be replicated. When I think “Thanksgiving,” it’s that smell, not any visual that takes over my mind.
What are your favorite things about Thanksgiving weekend? What’s on your agenda this week?

I have in interview in an hour. Ahhh! Wish me luck.
Luck! Go get ’em!
Good luck!!!!!
Thanks, both of you! I think I did fairly well. I have two friends who work for this company already and I really want this job. They mentioned that the salary I asked for was less than what they would give me if I were hired and they seem like a very cool company. Also, unlike where I am now, they are expanding, so there is more chance for upward mobility.
This week has felt non-stop in terms of household things. Furniture moving. Unfucking cupboards on a ridiculous scale.
Next week I’m planning to have more quiet time. We don’t have Thanksgiving, but Juniper Junior does by lovely coincidence of dates have three days off school next week (thanks in part to St. Andrews day) which mean a five day weekend. So am looking forward to family times!
I’m also getting festive by indulging in mince pies. Shop-bought ones, no less! The horror!
As soon as Thanksgiving is over, I get to start making sweets. Usually I just find about six types of cookies and make dozens of them, but this year I’m making candy, too. Dark chocolate truffles, salted caramels (some with rose), peppermint bark…. I’m psyched for this new challenge.
I’m thankful that for the first time in four years, I actually get to take Thanksgiving weekend off–the whole weekend! It’s intoxicating.
Since I’m living abroad, we’re doing Thanksgiving on Saturday. a local company does turkey and delivers them to your apartment etc. So my friends and I are doing a potluck Thanksgiving day thing. Not the same, but you do what you can.
Of course, it’s a full working week for me.
I did most of my Thanksgiving grocery shopping over the weekend and hit Trader Joe’s today to get the turkey (and a TON of junk food). Wednesday I gotta make the stuffing and apple pie, and I’ll do the rest of the cooking on Thursday.
My family goes to the zoo on black friday! It’s never crowded and our zoo has some cold-weather-loving animals who are much more active and happy when it’s colder out.
This week, my boyfriend gets to meet ALL the family. I hope they don’t devour him…
That’s genius! I’ve yet to do a Black Friday anything because shopping stresses me out and crowds stress me out, but I could totally rock a zoo trip!
That sounds awesome. I bet the polar bears and tigers are kicking in the fall. I would be tempted to follow your lead but the father person is having a toe amputated just before the holiday and won’t be up for much walking.
Retail life. This week kicks off six weeks of pure, utter hell. There’s not enough coffee in the world.
You have my complete and utter sympathy. I worked retail during the holidays for a few years and it is a special type of hell on earth. Hugs and unicorn kisses.
All the sympathy from a former retail worker. If it cheers you up any, I just got an iPhone and the first app I bought was Unfuck Your Habitat.
