It’s vacation week here and everyone is taking it easy. Well, when we’re not preparing for Thanksgiving we are taking it easy. Regardless of where I am, or what I am doing, there are a few things I require to declare a vacation success.
- Sleeping in. I do not believe in getting up early when you don’t have to.
- Reading. This week I am finally reading The Alienist. I’ve always wanted to, but never got around to it for some reason.
- Trying something new. Whether it is a new restaurant, or something like zip-lining (which is AWESOME, by the way), it’s easier to break out of my comfort zone on vacation.
- Shopping. What can I say? I like to shop. I don’t typically spend much money, but I love window shopping in new places. (Fun fact: I have been to the local Barnes & Noble in almost every city I have visited. It’s a quirk of mine.)
- Napping. Vacation naps are the best.
As you can see, I am a terribly exciting person, but I’d rather relax in my time off than come back from a trip feeling like I need another break to recover from my vacation. What about you? What are your favorite vacation activities?

YAY!!!
Testing! Things work! EASY IMAGES ARE BACK, UNICORNS!
My husband is all about making vacation not have a schedule! I have learned a lot from him and spend my vacations much like you.
Everything about vacations (especially the reading part) deserves cake and treats. My boyfriend and I are heading to Dunlin for a few days for (I hope) variations upon cakes and snacks.
In other news, I met Ciaran Carson today. He signed my book and posed for a picture with me. Stars and pens in my eyes.

I miss naps. I need my children to NOT be on vacation when I am. This is not happening in my immediate future. I’m not complaining, but it’s not the same!
Tell me about it. I took a nap today just because I didn’t want anyone to talk to me for an hour.
I am pro-nap on vacation. Vacation is for relaxing and taking care of yourself. For me, this means lots of rest, a few low-energy activities, and lots of good food. Mr. Dormouse and I are hoping to vacation in New Orleans in mid-March, and we’re already looking forward to taking it easy in the Big Easy–as long as we can save enough money to get there, that is!
March and April is my favorite time of year down here. :)
We wanted to avoid the madness of Mardi Gras while still enjoying the wonderful uniqueness of the city, but that’s good to know that you vouch for that time of year too! :)
I was on vacation last week, and my nap to useful activity ratio was way skewed in the nap direction. I feel OK with that.
